In a country where National Assembly members can comfortably forgo their salaries due to their substantial allowances. In a country where the fight against corruption is predominantly reactive, lacking preventive measures. In a country where public office holders flaunt immense wealth while their counterparts in other nations resign due to financial constraints. In a country where overnight billionaire status can be achieved without transparent sources of income. In a country where National Assembly members procure N160 million cars. In a country where contracts are awarded to companies linked to serving Ministers. In a country where the budget balloons by about N1.2 trillion. In a country where subsidy removal savings are distributed among Governors. In a country where Government are not moved by labour agitation anymore In a country where the inflation rate never falls, it continues to rise It's evident from the data below that we have not only squandered opportunities for the present generation but also jeopardized the future. The government must be held accountable for the poverty levels in this country. I can't wait to see what the 2023 numbers look like.

📊 A peak at the current economic insights on Pakistan With inflation now at 6.9%, we're anticipating two additional 150 bps cuts, potentially bringing the policy rate down to 14.5% by December 2024. This shift, alongside the newly locked IMF program, provides our government with the much-needed fiscal space to implement vital reforms. Several positive indicators are emerging: REER consolidation and flourishing remittances. Controlled imports due to lackluster demand. The dollar remains stable, making FE loans a viable short-term option for businesses. These interest rate adjustments are expected to relieve highly leveraged companies, positively impacting the PSX index. Additionally, with Pakistan's import bill heavily influenced by oil prices, the recent drop in oil costs has been a welcome relief for our economy. However, it’s a busy time for banks, which have profited from investing in government securities, but now face challenges meeting ADR requirements by December 31, 2024, to avoid increased taxes. The need to extend credit comes at a time when loan demand is low, heightening credit risk. A significant risk looms on the horizon with rising oil prices due to unrest in the Middle East. President Biden's comments about potential U.S. support for Israeli strikes on Iranian oil facilities could exacerbate this situation, impacting global oil supply and prices just weeks before the presidential election. Iran, pumping about 3.3 million barrels a day, is pivotal in this context. As we move forward, it’s crucial to stay vigilant and adapt to these evolving economic conditions. As a finance leader, the concept of Escalation of Commitment, also known as the Sunk Cost Fallacy, is something we encounter more often than we'd like to admit. In any industry, where projects and investments often demand significant capital, understanding this fallacy is crucial. Here's why it's especially important for us finance folks: Recognizing the Trap → We've all been there; the project's not going well, but we've already invested so much. → The temptation to continue pouring resources, money, and time into it is strong. → Why? Because admitting a mistake feels worse than continuing a failing path. Financial Implications → Every additional dollar spent is a dollar that could have been allocated elsewhere. → It's not just about the past investments, but the future opportunities lost. Emotional Attachment → It's easy to get emotionally invested in a project, especially one that started with high hopes. → But emotions can cloud judgment. → We need to step back and assess objectively. DecisionMaking Skills → Good finance leaders need to make decisions based on data, not past investments or emotions. → We must be ready to pivot, even when it hurts our pride. Leadership Example → Our teams look to us for guidance. → By acknowledging and adjusting course, we set an example of rational decisionmaking. → We're showing that it's okay to change direction when things don't pan out as planned.
