Exactly one year ago, Sandoz celebrated becoming the ‘oldest’ new company listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. The spin-off from our parent company marked the start of a new era for Sandoz, a brand that dates back to 1886. A lot has happened since we rang that initial cowbell 12 months ago (the traditional ‘entry ceremony’ for new joiners at the SIX in Zurich). Happy to announce - Life science research company valuationLAB has initiated research coverage and has issued an equity research report on the Company which estimates a current risk-adjusted net present value for Curatis Holding of CHF 20.00 per share which corresponds to an enterprise value of CHF 103 million.   Curatis has a profitable portfolio of more than 30 orphan drugs and specialty medicines, and a pipeline of innovative projects in advanced stages of development. C-PTBE-01, the most advanced product candidate, is intended for use in children suffering from peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) in connection with a diffuse midline glioma brain tumor. According to studies already carried out, C-PTBE-01 leads to significantly fewer side effects than products currently used for treatment.The submission of the application for orphan drug designation in the US and the EU, is planned in the second half of 2024, the conclusion of licensing agreements in 2025, and a narrowly defined Phase III trial is scheduled to start in the same year. The launch of the drug is planned for 2027. An alliance with a German-based global operator promises further international expansion in the cell and gene therapies sector for Cambridge’s Cellular Origins. It has signed a development agreement with Fresenius Kabi, an operating company of Fresenius Group, that leverages each company’s expertise in cell and gene therapy (CGT). The goal is to digitally and physically integrate Fresenius Kabi’s suite of cell therapy processing technologies within Cellular Origins’ CGT robotic manufacturing platform Constellation™. The partners say this will help cell therapy developers manufacture their therapies at scale using their preferred processing tools. Dr Edwin Stone, CEO at Cellular Origins (a TTP plc company) said: “Cellular Origins has developed Constellation to enable fully industrialised manufacture of cell and gene therapies. Forming strong collaborations is essential to ensuring the industry can implement the transformative power of automation whilst using the tools that are best for the biology and, therefore, for patients. “Fresenius Kabi is an industry-leading developer of automated technologies to support the production of cell therapies. Great speaking with Florence Vuichard and Pascal Michel for a story in today's "Schweiz am Wochenende". We talked about medicines people urgently need and sometimes cannot get, because current supplies are in different pack sizes than prescribed or because they are warehoused in different countries from which they cannot be imported due to regulatory hurdles. In my view there would be an easy solution: liberalilze the pharmaceutical supply chain accross borders and agree on prices that reflect the true value of essential generic medicines. We also spoke about the medicines everybody wants but nobody can produce enough of: weight-loss drugs. While this is a unique market situation like I have never seen before, we also need address rising environmental concerns with a dramatically growing number of one-time application devices.

#News: Roche (ROG.S),  on Thursday raised its full-year earnings forecast after exceeding expectations for the first half, driven by strong demand for newer drugs such as #eyemedicine #Vabysmo. The Swiss drugmaker said it expects growth in adjusted earnings in the "high single-digit range", excluding the effect of currency swings and resolution of tax disputes in 2023, up from previous estimates of "mid single-digit" percentage growth. Shares were up 2.4% in morning trading, after earlier rising as much as 4% to a one-year high. First-half adjusted operating profit gained 4% to 11.3 billion Swiss francs ($12.8 billion), the family-controlled drugmaker said on Thursday, beating analysts' consensus estimate of 10.5 billion, based on LSEG data. Strengthening EU Solidarity in Medicines Supply. This week, I had the pleasure to welcome Member of the European Parliament Sven Simon as well as Ursula Kirchner from the German Chemical Industry Association, VCI, and Christian Kurz from Initiative Gesundheitsindustrie Hessen, to our medicines manufacturing facility in Bad Vilbel, Germany. For more than 60 years, STADA Group has been making and supplying from this site a wide range of medicines, such as more than 2 billion tablets per year, plus capsules, liquids, ointments, creams and gels. With more than 300 employees, this facility not only provides many well-known consumer brands and essential medicines like blood-pressure products and cancer treatments to German pharmacies. It also exports to almost 70 countries. In light of this, it was valuable to discuss with MEP Simon how uncoordinated national stockpiling provisions, such as Germany’s obligation to hold six months of stock, are counter to the principle of European solidarity and security of supply. This requirement carries the risk of diverting essential medicines, such as life-saving antibiotics, from covering the needs of patients in other EU Member States. For antibiotics, Germany’s annual consumption, together with the six-month stockpile, would amount to one quarter of total antibiotics consumption of the whole of the EU. That is equivalent to annual consumption in Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia combined! Rather than counter-productive local measures, member states must work together to strengthen medicines security of supply by considering EU-level strategic reserves, reducing regulatory complexity, and ensuring pricing, reimbursement and procurement structures promote sustainable competition. #CaringforPeoplesHealth #Pharmaceuticals #MedicinesSupply #EuropeanUnion

Every year on September 29th, we unite to celebrate World Heart Day, a crucial reminder of the importance of heart health and the ongoing fight against cardiovascular disease (CVD). Currently more than 49 million people in Europe suffer from CVD and there are another 11 million new diagnosis every year. 🧪🚀 The Biosimilars Void: an urgent need for action? At the recent Festival of Biologics in Basel, discussions centered on a critical issue: the projected shortage of #biosimilarmedicines. According to IQVIA data, 110 biologics are expected to lose market exclusivity in Europe by 2032, with many lacking a biosimilar candidate in development. This potential void poses significant risks to affordable patient access and the #sustainability of healthcare systems, but there are regulatory hurdles and procurement challenges for market contenders to overcome. With the potential cost of inaction projected at €15B in lost savings by 2032, now is the time to act, if an interruption to the continuation of affordable, innovative #healthcare is to be continued.
