💡 👨‍🔬 Breakthrough Multi-Cancer Early Detection Research Findings at Prestigious American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting 2024 in Chicago 🌎 Dr. Le Son Tran, the SPOT-MAS R&D Team leader from Medical Genetics Institute Ho Chi Minh City and Gene Solutions is set to present breakthrough findings at the upcoming prestigious oncology conference this weekend. Since 2022, Gene Solutions kicked off the largest and most comprehensive multi-center prospective study, K-DETEK, to clinically validate the diagnostic performance of SPOT-MAS - recruiting 10,027 asymptomatic individuals aged 40 years or older. Our team is looking forward to share our findings at our poster session. The MCED team at Medical Genetics Institute Ho Chi Minh City and Gene Solutions developed a novel approach - Screening for the Presence Of Tumor by Methylation And Size (SPOT-MAS), which offers a comprehensive analysis through the integration of methylation, fragment length profile, DNA copy number aberration and end motif in a single library reaction. It was designed to simultaneously detect five common types of cancer, including liver, breast, colorectal, gastric, and lung cancer, and predict the tissue origin of cancer signal. [Monthly People Reporter Yoo Ji-yeon] With the number of diabetes patients in Korea exceeding 6 million, according to an in-depth report on diabetes management indicators based on the National Health and Nutrition Survey of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the treatment rate and recognition rate are significantly lower for those in their 30s and 40s. According to the data presented by the Korean Diabetes Association in 2020, about 15.83 million people in the pre-diabetes stage, which is at high risk of developing diabetes, were at the level of fasting blood glucose or glycated hemoglobin. CEO Im of HealthiBuddy Co., Ltd. has established a service that helps people manage frequent diabetes without difficulty and form natural habits in their daily lives. 'HealthiBuddy', a comprehensive service platform that helps form lifelong health habits and prevents diabetes and diabetes complications Based on the participants' blood test results, body composition index, continuous glucose data, their lifestyle analysis, HealthiBuddy's internal medicine and rehabilitation medicine specialists and clinical nutritionists guided and improved their lifestyle habits, followed by analysis and coaching according to the improvement goals. Participants who have a high possibility of developing diabetes were attached with a blood sugar measurement sensor and measured blood sugar for 24 hours in a row. Based on the recorded data, it was well received by providing optimal solutions for each individual with experts in the stages of lifestyle analysis, formation and improvement of lifestyle habits and post-war comparison. The results showed that the health of 19 out of 21 people improved, with average blood sugar decreasing by up to 42 mg/dL, and participants were able to visually check blood sugar changes through the HealthiBuddy app and gradually apply blood sugar healthy diet and physical activities in the lives of individuals with diabetes through continuous conversations with dedicated buddies. He also expressed his feelings that he was able to improve his eating habits in a direction suitable for the individual's situation and find vitality by using appropriate exercise habits. Diabetes can start with mild symptoms and be considered insignificant at first, but it is also a chronic metabolic disease that requires constant management because various complications can occur. CEO Im and others focused on learning blood glucose health by users themselves in the form of lifelong habits that add small habits to the life patterns of people suffering from diabetes. Mark of Excellence Endoscopy Services: Go for AACI Platinum Medal of Certification Vietnamese Federation for Digestive Endoscopy (VFDE) was established in 2011 and there are now more than 2,000 endoscopists in Vietnam. ERCP was first performed in 1993. Currently, there are more than 15,000 cases of ERCP per year. Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) has been widely used since 2012, and there are about 30 EUS systems in Vietnam. Perhaps 95% of the 800,000 endoscopy procedures per year in Vietnam are straightforward diagnostic procedures. Having such common procedures, ECRI Institute put cross-contamination from flexible endoscopes on the list of the top ten technology hazards for the past 3 years – it’s a sign that cross-contamination from improperly reprocessed endoscopes remains a significant and serious concern. Reasons for Endoscope- related Infections: (1) Failure to follow established reprocessing Guidelines, (2) Inadequate cleaning, (3) Improper selection or dilution of disinfecting agents, (4) Inadequate staff training and quality assurance, (5) Failure to use proper equipment during reprocessing. AACI has developed this clinical standard based on its long experience and the most common nonconformities raised during the last 15 years in the endoscopy units all around the world. The objective of this standard is to provide guidelines for precleaning, leak-testing, cleaning, storage, high-level disinfecting, and/or sterilizing of flexible gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopes, flexible bronchoscopes, surgical flexible endoscopes (e.g., flexible ureteroscopes), and semi-rigid operative endoscopes (e.g., choledochoscopes) in health care facilities. These standards are intended to provide comprehensive information and direction for health care personnel in the processing of these devices and accessories. Their innovative health initiatives have significantly improved maternal and newborn health, showcasing the power of effective health promotion. 🍼 Expanded Prenatal Examination Services Since July 1, 2021, Taiwan's HPA has expanded subsidies for prenatal examinations, offering comprehensive screenings for gestational diabetes, anemia, and more. Routine prenatal tests are now a cornerstone of maternal care, helping to keep the mother and the baby healthy and fully supported during pregnancy. 📈 High Utilization Rates of Prenatal Services From 2016 to 2022, the utilization rates of prenatal preventive services have consistently been above 95%. This high rate underscores the program’s effectiveness and acceptance, with up to 99.0% utilization in some years. 👶 Comprehensive Care for High-Risk Pregnancies Launched nationwide in 2022, the program targets high-risk pregnant women and infants, addressing factors like lack of prenatal exams, substance use, and socio-economic challenges. The program boasts a 98.8% quit rate for tobacco and alcohol users and ensures 98.3% of women attend at least four prenatal checks. 🤝 Perinatal Care Network Program This program forms a robust network to support pregnant women with health or socio-economic risks, providing tailored follow-up care and health education. 【Decoding Rare Disease - Alagille Syndrome】 Promoting understanding of genomic medicine and its clinical applications among the community has always been one of the key areas that HKGI focuses on. We are pleased to share that our Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, Dr Hon-Yin Brian Chung, and our Consultant (Genomics), Dr Josephine Chong, recently delivered interviews for the popular TV programme "Vital Lifeline" (最強生命線) produced by TVB as part of a series introducing various rare diseases. In one of the first few episodes that have just been broadcast, Dr Chung discussed Alagille syndrome, a genetic disorder that can affect the liver, heart, and other parts of the body. Citing a newborn case from the Hong Kong Genome Project implemented by HKGI, Dr Chung explained the disease’s symptoms and the applications of whole genome sequencing (WGS) technology along the patient journey. The use of WGS in this case was pivotal, enabling accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plan. The sequencing results also guided the patient’s parents on future family planning.
