Kind leadership is not just a nice to have, it is a business imperative. At Dexian, we know that engaged employees drive stronger results, and kindness is at the core of how we lead. Our CEO, Maruf Ahmed, shares why kindness in leadership matters now more than ever.
Pushing for kindness in leadership has been an uphill battle throughout my career. Some people hear “kind leadership” and think it’s too soft. Too much about feelings, not enough about results. I’ve never seen it that way. At Dexian, we’ve made kindness a cornerstone of our business because the data is clear: engaged employees perform better, stay longer, and innovate more. Yet, our latest HumanKindex Report shows a decline in kind leadership, even as 60% of employees say it’s more necessary to their performance than ever. The old “command and control” model still dominates, and kindness is too often seen as a nice-to-have rather than a business imperative. Maya Angelou taught us that kindness takes courage, and I believe that’s especially true in leadership. It takes courage to prioritize it when times are tough. But true kindness drives results, builds trust, and makes companies stronger. I believe this matters. It’s something I’ve worked to reinforce at Dexian, and I’m grateful for the platform lent by the folks at HR Daily Advisor to share these ideas outward to those willing to engage in the conversation.
