  • Aer Lingus Expands with the A321XLR—What’s Next? ✈️🌍 With Aer Lingus set to launch flights between Dublin Airport (DUB - daa) and Indianapolis (IND - Indianapolis Airport Authority) this May, the airline continues its strategy of using the A321XLR to serve secondary cities. As part of International Airlines Group (IAG), Aer Lingus will operate six of these long-range narrowbody aircraft, unlocking new route possibilities. But where else could the A321XLR open opportunities from Dublin? To explore this, we analyzed the largest unserved O&D markets within a 7000 km range of DUB, aligning with the aircraft’s capabilities. The results? 🔹 The US is by far the most promising region, with Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), Nashville (BNA - Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority), and Detroit (DTW) leading the ranking - indicating clear potential for further transatlantic expansion. 🔹 Other sizeable unserved markets include Lahore (LHE), Tel Aviv (TLV), Lagos (LOS), and Islamabad (ISB). With the A321XLR enabling long-haul routes with lower operating costs, airlines like Aer Lingus can pursue transatlantic expansion more efficiently than ever before. Which destinations do you think should be next on the list? Let us know in the comments! 🚀 Want to uncover hidden opportunities for your airline or airport? • With T'way Air expanding into Europe in 2025, the airline is taking advantage of slots and traffic rights made available by other South Korean carriers - a requirement set by the EU as part of its approval for the Korean Air-Asiana Airlines merger. While t’way plans to focus on large, already-served markets, we wanted to explore where the untapped opportunities are. To find out, we analyzed the O&D potential for unserved markets from and to Seoul Incheon (ICN - Incheon International Airport Corporation) - focusing on destinations that currently lack a direct connection. 🔹 BER - Berlin Brandenburg Airport ranks as the largest unserved European market, highlighting a potential opportunity for a direct link between Germany’s capital and South Korea. 🔹 India appears three times in our top 10, with Chennai (MAA), Mumbai (BOM), and Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BLR) all showing strong demand - suggesting an underserved corridor for travel and trade between the two nations. As t’way and other carriers consider their next moves, our analysis provides insights into where demand exists but direct flights do not - a key factor in identifying promising new route opportunities. Which new routes from ICN do you think would make the most sense? Let us know in the comments! Want to uncover hidden opportunities for your airport or airline? Senior Executive - Research & Planning | Ex- Shopee

A huge thank you to George Karamanos instructor from IATA Training for sharing his profound expertise on how airports can achieve success and profitability. His insights were incredibly valuable in understanding the key drivers behind airport growth. Also, a special thanks to Elias Braun from BEONTRA, a Leidos company for introducing us to advanced simulation and forecasting techniques for route markets – an eye-opening experience that bridges data with strategy. I’m truly grateful to my inspiring leaders, Puan Juanita and Mr. Lee Kien Lin, for organizing this interactive and insightful event. It has given us the tools and knowledge to better understand how we can contribute meaningfully to the company’s success. This course has been a goldmine of information, from case studies and presentations to exams and simulations. It has helped me deepen my understanding of airport key revenue streams—particularly route development and commercial strategy. Learning how to strike the right balance of non-aero and aero services to satisfy passengers, airlines, and profitability was one of the many highlights. To all airport executives, whether you're just starting out or looking to sharpen your skills, I highly recommend participating in this program. The knowledge and strategies gained are invaluable for both personal and professional growth. 13 Jan 2024 - 22 Jan 2024 #Aviation #RouteDevelopment #AirportManagement #Forecasting #ProfessionalGrowth Malaysia Airports

  • IndiGo’s Bold Step into Long-Haul: Opportunities for Expansion to Europe 🌍✈️ As IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) prepares for its entry into the long-haul market, exciting developments are on the horizon. With plans to wet-lease six B787-9 Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic Airways starting in early 2025 and discussions to accelerate Airbus A350-900 deliveries, IndiGo is setting the stage to expand its network and offering non-stop connections to Europe. The initial deployment of the widebody fleet could include routes to London Heathrow (LHR) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG; Groupe ADP) — two destinations identified as key priorities. Inspired by these news, we analyzed the O&D market sizes from India to European airports to uncover potential opportunities. Here’s what we found: London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Frankfurt (FRA; Fraport AG) lead the ranking, confirming their status as major hubs for India-Europe travel. Interestingly, Manchester (MAN; MAG (Airports Group)) and Dublin Airport (DUB; daa) — ranked 7th and 8th respectively — currently lack non-stop flights to or from India, presenting a compelling opportunity for IndiGo or other carriers to establish new connections. As IndiGo steps into the widebody game, its move into long-haul travel could address growing demand and strengthen ties between India and Europe, meeting the needs of both business and leisure travelers. Which European destinations do you think should be next on IndiGo’s radar? Share your thoughts below! • Looking Ahead to 2025: Opportunities for Long-Haul Growth from Stockholm ARN ✈️🌍 As we approach the end of the year, it’s time to set our sights on what’s coming in 2025. One exciting development is Norse Atlantic Airways’ plan to establish operations in Sweden, with Stockholm ARN (Swedavia AB) to Bangkok (BKK) announced as the first route. It seems logical that Norse picked BKK as their starting point — with 162,000 passengers in the past 12 months, it is by far the largest long-haul market from ARN. Inspired by this, we analyzed the long-haul O&D markets (5000+ km) from ARN to uncover further opportunities for Norse or other carriers. Here are some key findings: The next largest markets are Newark (EWR) and New York JFK, underscoring strong transatlantic demand. The largest unserved markets? Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), and Boston (BOS) — potential candidates for future expansion. Strategic long-haul connections like these could further strengthen ARN’s role as a gateway for both leisure and business travel. Curious to explore untapped opportunities for your airport or airline? Discover how BEONTRA’s Route Forecasting solution can help: www.beontra.com/solutions.
