From arctic cold to blistering desert heat - our climatic wind tunnel in Weissach can simulate extreme conditions from a frosty -30°C to a hot +50°C under one roof. Wind speeds of up to 260km/h can be generated - as strong as a category 5 hurricane. Humidity can be precisely controlled from 5 to 90% and solar radiation of up to 1200 watts per square metre can be simulated. Monsoon rainfall of up to 800 litres per hour can also be simulated. This means that the climate of almost any region of the world can be simulated in a very small space. Our engineers perform a wide range of critical tests in this state-of-the-art environment: They optimise powertrain systems, check cooling circuits, subject batteries to extreme climatic conditions, analyse component temperatures under extreme loads and evaluate the strength of vehicle components in different wind conditions. Air conditioning systems are also tested for comfort and performance, and de-icing systems are optimised for winter scenarios. Driving through the deserts of Nevada or travelling with a trailer over snow-covered Alpine passes: extreme as these tests may seem, they serve a clear purpose: to ensure that every vehicle that leaves our factory is perfectly prepared for all conceivable climatic conditions.

Seine Hauptverantwortlichkeiten umfassen die Software- und Hochvoltinbetriebnahme von Prototypen, die Vorbereitung von Erprobungen (Umbau und Aufbau von Erprobungsträgern) sowie die Fehlerdiagnose bis hin zur finalen Erprobungsteilnahme. Neben seinem Vollzeitjob bei #Porsche studiert Rodi derzeit Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen. Ein besonderes Highlight, auf das Rodi zurückblicken kann: „Definitiv die Erprobungsteilnahme in den USA. Es war meine erste Reise in die USA, und mit meinem Lieblingsauto, dem 911er, unterwegs zu sein, war einfach ein Traum, der in Erfüllung gegangen ist.“ #TraumjobPorsche

Bordering the warm waters of the Adriatic Sea, the winding roads and stunning scenery of the Montenegrin Littoral are a hidden gem for travellers. And at the heart of this quiet coastal corner of southeast Europe is, unexpectedly for many, a drivers’ paradise: the Kotor Serpentine Road. A recent media event to mark the addition of the Macan Electric to Porsche’s mid-size SUV series saw journalists from 14 different markets descend on the region, basing themselves in the ancient town of Herceg Novi, Montenegro’s ‘City of the Sun’. From here, a 60 km drive eastwards around the steep-sided and densely wooded Bay of Kotor brought the convoy of all-electric Macan models to the foot of to what is regarded as one of the greatest driving roads in Europe. Einblicke in die Praxis: Unser Besuch an der Universität St.Gallen (HSG) Matthias F. ist Software Engineer bei #Porsche und arbeitet an der My Porsche App. Vergangene Woche hatte Matthias die Gelegenheit, interessierten Studierenden in St. Gallen zu zeigen, wie die digitale Transformation unsere Arbeitsweise beeinflusst und wie sich unsere Organisation darauf einstellt. Konkret teilte er, warum die digitale Transformation entscheidend ist und wie sich unsere //DigitalFamily organisatorisch aufstellt und agile Methoden einsetzt, um kundenorientiert zu arbeiten und ein innovatives sowie kreatives Umfeld zu schaffen. Um den Austausch mit den Studierenden anschaulich zu gestalten, präsentierte er die My Porsche App in einer Live-Demo und teilte sowohl organisatorische als auch technische Einblicke aus seinem Alltag als Software Engineer bei Porsche. After almost 17 years and 196,392 units, the Porsche 911 of the 964 generation replaced the so-called ‘G-series’ in July 1989. It was just over half a century ago in 1973 that Porsche presented the first 911, 911 S and the top model 911 Carrera with wide bellows on the bumpers. With this eye-catching feature on the redesigned bodywork, Porsche responded to the new requirement from the USA that new vehicles should be able to withstand a collision of 8 km/h when travelling forwards and backwards. The bellows bumpers can be pushed in up to 50 millimetres without damaging important vehicle parts. The reflective red light strip with the Porsche lettering between the rear lights is also a recognisable feature of the ‘G-series’. Compared to the first generation, the sports car manufacturer dispensed with chrome trim on the models between 1973 and 1989. The body grew by 144 millimetres - Porsche retained the classic silhouette. The initially installed 2.7-litre engine produced 110 kW (150 hp). The 911 Carrera 3.2 Coupé epitomises the transition from a hand-built classic to a modern sports car icon. Porsche produced the 911 in the model years 1984 to 1989, and from 1986 it was optionally available with a regulated catalytic converter, a first for the German market. From the 1984 model year until the end of production of the second generation of the 911 in July 1989, the displacement of the six-cylinder engine increased to 3.2 litres and the power output rose to 170 kW (231 hp). While the 152 kW (207 hp) engine ran on unleaded regular petrol in 1986, the power output increased to 160 kW (217 hp) a year later, with unleaded Euro super petrol being used. The mix of timeless design, air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine and driving dynamics that still set standards today make the sports car the epitome of the purist Porsche driving experience. In the interior, Porsche changed the switches for the 1986 model year, redesigned the dashboard and enlarged the air vents. The front seats are now 20 millimetres lower, giving drivers more headroom. From 1989, the last model year, Porsche introduced Fuchs rims as standard.

Have you ever heard of the term "greenfield factory”? A perfect example to explain this, is our Leipzig plant, which has been built quite literally on the green meadow. As a “greenfield factory”, it was continuously extended to initially produce the Cayenne, followed by the Panamera and the Macan, given the nearly abundant availability of land. The fact that new production facilities such as the axle assembly line were easy to add to the existing factory layout, gave us also the chance to integrate three powertrain variants to the plant. From early on, our factory planers could even integrate a biodiversity area in close proximity to the factory buildings. Porsche Leipzig GmbH

Zur Premiere von Anna Karenina begrüßte Porsche seine Gäste im Opernhaus Stuttgart. Das Handlungsballett in einer bewegenden Inszenierung von John Neumeier, der diesen Klassiker aus dem 19. Jahrhundert in die Gegenwart brachte. Die auf das Wesentliche konzentrierte Handlung, die Musik von Peter Tschaikowsky, Alfred Schnittke und Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam sowie das reduzierte Bühnenbild ließen die Geschichte um Stolz, Selbstbewusstsein und Liebe auf faszinierende Weise lebendig werden. Ein Abend, der Kunst, Kultur und besondere Begegnungen vereinte. Kraft und Performance. Die neu entstandenen Fotomotive zeigten Detailaufnahmen der Tanzbewegungen und des Fahrzeugdesigns und brachten die Stärke der Partnerschaft vor Ort eindrucksvoll zur Geltung. The drive system in electric vehicles usually consists of separate components: A high-voltage battery with battery management system, power electronics for controlling the electric motor, and an on-board charger for charging with AC power. The power electronics convert the DC voltage of the high-voltage battery into the sinusoidal three-phase AC voltage for the traction motor using a pulse inverter. This structure has proved its usefulness in current vehicles, but could be further improved in the future. Porsche Engineering has developed the concept of an ‘AC battery’ for electric vehicles that unites numerous components in a single part. It is controlled by a standardized control unit concept with a particularly powerful and real-time-capable computing platform.
