  Welcome on board, Norges Bank Investment Management!   We are entering a new partnership with Norges Bank Investment Management for our Nordseecluster and Thor offshore wind projects which are currently under construction. While our new partner and co-investor will acquire 49% stakes, we remain in charge of construction and operations. The agreed purchase price is approximately €1.4 billion as of closing which is expected by the beginning of the third quarter of 2025.   Active portfolio management is part of our systematic approach to optimise our capital allocation for our offshore wind business. By selling down and entering partnerships for our projects, we reduce our capital employed for projects under construction and our partner gets stakes in highly attractive projects.    Once fully commissioned, the two offshore wind farms will have a total capacity of 2.7 gigawatts – enough to power more than 2.6 million households in Germany and Denmark.    A big thank you to the projects team on both sides for making this possible.

Our Zuidwester onshore wind farm is part of the Noordoostpolder, which is one of Europe’s largest wind projects!  Each of the ENERCON turbines has a capacity of 7.5 megawatts, making them among the most powerful onshore turbines in the world. With a rotor diameter of 126 meters, these 12 turbines have replaced 50 older models, increasing total capacity sixfold to 90 MW. They have been delivering clean energy since 2017.

El pasado martes celebramos una pequeña fiesta de despedida en el parque eólico con el equipo de operaciones. Durante todos estos años, Muel ha producido aproximadamente 800 GWh, alcanzando disponibilidades energéticas de más del 98% hasta el último año de producción. Aunque nos despedimos de Muel en su forma actual, estamos entusiasmados por su próxima repotenciación, que promete un futuro lleno de energía renovable y sostenible.

Great news from our Sofia Offshore Wind Farm: the first turbine is in place. This is a significant milestone for one of RWE’s largest and most powerful offshore wind projects. We are installing 100 Siemens Gamesa turbines in total, each standing 252 metres tall – higher than the buildings in Canary Wharf in London.    With capacity of up to 1.4 gigawatts, Sofia will produce enough electricity to supply the equivalent of up to 1.2 million UK homes. Sustainability is also a key focus, as half of the turbine blades are recyclable – a major step towards a more circular offshore wind industry.     The turbine installation vessel, Wind Peak, transports six turbine components per trip and assembles them offshore – a true feat of engineering, logistics, and teamwork!     A huge thank you to all our teams and partners who are making this project such a success. The coming months will be exciting – by 2026, Sofia will be fully operational and will contribute to the UK’s Clean Power 2030 targets.
