CEN/TC 251 as set up an initial list of standards that could have relevance to the The European Health Data Space #EHDS. Essential requirements for the harmonised components of EHR systems and products claiming interoperability with EHR systems are laid out in in Annex II of the agreed EHDS regulation. Annex II makes the distinction between: General Requirements, Requirements for interoperability (direct reference to the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format) and Requirements for security and for logging. CEN/TC 251 has provided a first attempt at identifying relevant standards to each of these categories of requirements. 💡 What are our key takeaways from our insightful time at DMEA - Connecting Digital Health last week? - 🔥 The widespread awareness and understanding of FHIR among attendees was remarkable. It's clear that FHIR has become common knowledge in the DACH region, with many (although not all) recognizing its significance in German regulations like KHZG and #ISiK. - ✅ The perspectives shared—from government bodies like gematik and KBV to hospitals and vendors—highlighted Germany's awareness of the importance of interoperability driven by modern technology. As this awareness continues to expand, we can see a wealth of new use cases and innovations emerging. - ⏩ The industry is still in the process of defining clear use cases and business models. However, over the next 2 years, we envision a similar shift to what we have seen in the US, where the conversation evolves from "How can I use FHIR?" to "How can FHIR solve my business challenges/opportunities?" #FHIR by HL7 is the set data standard to globally enable interoperability in #healthcare 🏥 FHIR 🔥 was designed to be easy to implement, using existing logical and theoretical models to exchange data. It is based on modern approaches such as #restful APIs and #json. 🚨 Challenges in Germany's Digital Healthcare Act 🚨 Since its launch in 2019, Germany's Digital Healthcare Act aimed to revolutionize the integration of digital health applications (DiGAs) into the healthcare system. However, recent findings reveal that only 20% of available DiGAs are utilizing the patient-relevant structural and procedural improvement (pSVV) pathway. Key insights from a comprehensive study conducted between May 2023 and November 2024 include: 🔍 Only 1 out of 56 DiGAs used pSVV as a primary endpoint 🔒 Regulatory uncertainties and operational barriers hinder adoption 📉 A lack of entrepreneurial focus on pSVV limits its effectiveness To truly empower patients and enhance digital health adoption, it’s crucial to address these challenges. Future strategies must focus on clarifying frameworks, improving evaluation methodologies, and fostering market formation.
