„ I have known Georg since 2007, when we both worked in the World Bank's (WB) Private Sector Development Department. Georg moved on to the Oil, Gas and Mining Department, and ultimately to the World Bank's Young Professionals Program. (YPP). The YPP is a highly selective program for early mid-career professionals. Georg has been a very esteemed colleague, always providing sound peer advice and showing an exceptional passion for climate change and energy. Several years later we met again when Georg was assigned to the Bank's Middle East Department, based in Cairo. Co-leading the African Development Bank (AfDB)’s Team I was Georg’s counterpart in several large multi-lender energy originations in the Middle East, notably the Ouarzazate-Nuur project. This project was at the time the largest Concentrated Solar Power plant in the world, a PPP with a total cost of ~4bn, and a project finance construct with concessional climate financing instruments. Georg contributed significantly to ensuring the complicated financing structure became bankable – he not only led various analytical tasks such as the financial and economic aspects of the project, but also showed leadership in a complex lender structure: His role was pivotal in finding an agreement that provided the best outcome for the client. In this time, Georg also led other projects on renewable energy in the region, including e.g. as Team Lead on a $100M policy loan to the Government of Morocco that provided a regulatory backbone for much of the WB's / AfDB's renewable energy investments in this country. For over 10 years, Georg has been a colleague and peer whom I highly trust in his assessment and who has often provided excellent investment advice in the energy and infrastructure space. His capacity to structure complex transactions and to originate blended financing structures that include social and environmental benefits is very well regarded among peers and subordinates. He is a stellar strategist, and I trust his critical and analytical thinking to take difficult professional decisions. His capacity to structure complex set-ups to guide a decision making is excellent, and on more than one investment decision in my career, he has provided a clear and confidential sounding board. He is a well-known expert, and conversations in the climate and energy finance space in emerging markets will often mention his name as one of the thought leaders in the space. “
