I will just share my own experience and research here. It only took me a few days to get my work permit approved. But that is because of two factors: firstly, I have a German university degree. Secondly, I live in Stadt Ludwigsburg where the visa processing speed is much faster. About the first factor, for those without a German university degree, it usually take a few months to get their degree recognized. But this is not a big issue since foreign applicant in German job market should have done this already before applying (presumably in their home country). Just apply for the recognition process and wait patiently. The second factor is where bureaucracy has really ruined the work permit process. Some cities in Germany are notorious in terms of responding to visa request. For example, in Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart, it ususally take six months to a year to get the work permit approved. I know people relocate to small cities specifically for the purpose of easier visa process. Probably Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart also has something to say in response?

Ok, please let me summarize the current state of A.I. from my technical view for anyone here in my timeline: I have integrated ChatGPT for 2 blue chip German companies in the support chain and for one medium size Gorilla in the development and deployment chain in the past 12 months. It gave me a very good living in the past year - so much for "it is taking my job"... no, it has raised my income by ca. 25%. A.I. is doing a good job at improving efficiency by an estimated 10% to 20% in the typical "generative" steps (writing text, checking code, retrieving internal know-how, aka RAG). It is a solid tool. It is also an improper tool for many things, people use it for. It can help to improve images or generate some kind of images perfectly. 50-60% increase of productivity in niches. It can write some basic "royalty free" songs for you, money saved. I am all in all amazed by 3 or 4 generative models out there and also amazed, how badly many of the biggies fail to copy OpenAI. AIstudio by Google is not good. I am not sure, where we are heading at the moment, but my life as a developer and strategist consultant improved with A.I. - not beyond belief, but by a measurable amount. Interesting times, Watson!

Setting: It's a rainy day in early winter in Berlin. However, Shlomi (a startup product manager) is in a good mood as he is on his way to the office for a user interview session for his new product, a B2B customer portal. Shlomi: "Good morning! How are you? Can I get you anything?" User: "Good morning, I am good, thanks! Water would be nice." Shlomi comes back with the water and sits in front of the User. Shlomi: "So, I want you to perform action X on the product. Please think out loud, meaning describe what you think." The User starts interacting and talking. User: "Should I do this?" Shlomi: "No, you should start there." The User is getting a bit quiet. Shlomi: "Is everything okay?" What's wrong with the scene above? 💡 👉 The product manager directly answers the User's question, telling them how things should be done. The PM only says this because he knows the product and considers how he would have performed the action. 👉 When the User takes a moment to think, the PM can't stand quietly and asks if everything is okay, which results in more unnecessary stress and fills in the quiet that needs to occur. Revised scene: User: "Should I do this?" Shlomi looks at the User calmly. "I am sure you got this. Take your time!" The User takes some minutes to think and experiment and then successfully performs the action. Outcome: 💡 Shlomi takes notes, realizes there was confusion about the process for a potential real user to act, and finds a way he never considered for performing the action. We enjoyed the #PlatformCon kick-off with Kelsey Hightower and Kaspar Von Grünberg! Our key takeaways: - Abstractions are the key to creating successful platforms! - Developers should interact with the platform through a well-defined API, e.g. portal, CLI, REST API, IDE/editor plugin, etc - With appropriate APIs, contracts, and boundaries, Silos with organisations can be beneficial in enabling work to get done (think modular design that embraces the "single responsibility principle" with small batches, a fast flow, and a good feedback mechanism) - Always provide a "happy (golden) path" for developers to get access to platform services and capabilities - Over time, the difference between on-prem and cloud will disappear. Focus on the APIs and workflow (think IaC++)

"I think AI is really exciting, but I still don't see enough convincing practical examples. I can recognize AI-generated content 5 miles upwind! 2. Job security "Sam Altman says that AI will take over 95% of all marketing tasks. But in the end, it's always the human who makes the decisions" 3. AI Washing "What really annoys me: everyone pretends to be AI natives as soon as they have a headline written by chat.gpt.  4. AI Armageddon If climate change doesn't kill us, AI will. We won't need bats for the next deadly virus. AI will soon build it all by itself.  5. Search is dead. "I don't Google anything anymore - only AI. it's funny how backward Google search now seems." What did I miss?

𝙒𝙝𝙮? 💡Even though women make 50% of our population, only 2 out of 10 women found a company in Germany. 💰Only 2% of Venture Capital goes into female founded companies. 👩🏻‍💻Only 15% of senior partners in VC firms are women. 📑 In the Innovation Agenda of the Startup-Verband we set the objective that every third startup in Germany should have a female co-founder by 2030. My ask to you:  𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝘁. Having talked to many people that suffered a burnout, my observation is that it can be tremendously helpful to get a nudge from people that care about you. It is a common burnout symptom to “try to keep pushing through” and “take care of one self, after X, Y, Z is finished” -> this often significantly prolongs the healing process. Be there for the people you care about and encourage them to take care of themselves now and not when it’s too late.
