After another failure at #COP29, I think it’s obvious that we need to redesign the COP's governance. This starts with the host country selection process.   What’s the issue? Despite enormous urgency to mitigate the worst effects of climate change, COP29 was overshadowed by controversy, including host country Azerbaijan's use of the platform to promote new gas and oil deals. ARD titles harshly: “Not just failure, but fraud.” https://lnkd.in/dShQpDaY Unfortunately, this has been the rule, not the exception, since many years.   So, what to do about that? I think, first of all, we need to change how host countries are selected. Petro states, for example, should simply not be hosts. Not because they shouldn’t have a seat at the table (they must!) but because they have a conflict of interest that regularly captures the COP.   For this, the UNFCCC would have to adjust the host country application and selection process.   Thinking more radical: What if host countries would always be those most affected by climate change? They would have a natural incentive to get the most meaningful agreements and action out of every COP and to design it accordingly.

Are you also missing time to #learn new inspiring things while managing multiple roles and surfing the waves of change in our #BANI world? One of those things on my bucket list is #AI - I admit to know too little about it apart from trying here and there some of the apps in private and business context. Using the siesta time for reading and starting an online course on AI ( https://lnkd.in/eG2CyiMr different free AI courses in German and English languages) brought me a lot of new aspects. But the best part was an #experiment with my friends: well known association game #CodeNames, difficult enough to play with people you don’t know and getting really deep with close friends. So we got curious first whether an AI would be able to support us on finding associations with words, without knowing our #multicultural backgrounds and without checking our social media profiles (both #ChatGPT and #Perplexity refused to check our profiles, but probably I have not asked it in the right way). We first tried out Perplexity, without big success- it’s great on facts and providing sources of the answers, but not impressive on human interaction. But than we used #ChatGPT - and it was astonishing💯 ! 🤖 literally better got my advices than my human friends! PS But of course, AI is only an inspiring addition to any interaction with people, and will never replace it, at least for me.

Verwaltung komplett digital wie in Estland- würde 35,000 Finanzbeamte einsparen und viele Milliarden. 3. Jedes Jahr 10 Prozent weniger Verwalter und Stellenstopp und Digitalisierung. 4. Zuzug Unqualifizierter klar begrenzen. 5. Wachstum, Wachstum, Wachstum 2 Prozent +, denn ohne dieses ist der Staatshaushalt auf Treibsand gebaut.

Exciting Developments in the Net Neutrality Debate Yesterday’s #netneutrality decision by the #FCC will surely prompt another wave of research on this topic, which I believe is the right reaction to ensure that the issue continues to be debated on scientific grounds. A recent empirical research article by Wolfgang Dr. Briglauer et al. suggests decreased fiber investments, for example. ℂ𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕟 ℝ𝕚𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕤 𝕥𝕠 𝕊𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕆𝕔𝕖𝕒𝕟𝕤 𝕠𝕣 𝕙𝕠𝕨 𝕝𝕠𝕨-𝕥𝕖𝕔𝕙 𝕔𝕒𝕟 𝕓𝕖 𝕙𝕚𝕘𝕙 𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕥   At this years #ESGSummit in Bonn I was fortunate to have the opportunity together with Karsten Hirsch to share the story of Plastic Fischer GmbH and how #Siemens technology supports their mission.   Plastic Fischer GmbH was the first company to stop waste streams in rivers to prevent plastic from reaching the oceans.   Karsten shared his personal experience of seeing the devastating impact of the waste polluted Mekong river and where decided to take action.   𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹: 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁   This is how they do it:   𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵: They use locally built materials to create low-tech, cost-effective solutions. This approach not only saves time and money but also reduces carbon emissions.   𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁:Operating in India and Indonesia, Plastic Fischer runs five full-scale projects with over 36 technologies deployed daily. They have collected more than 1,850,000 kilograms of river plastic since April 2021 stopping them reaching our global ocean system.   𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: Their modular TrashBoom system, made from locally available materials, efficiently captures plastic using the river's flow. This system is easy to implement and maintain, making it highly effective.   𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: With over 85 local full-time employees, they emphasize local involvement and awareness campaigns to prevent plastic from entering rivers in the first place.   𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Using Siemens Solid Edge and Teamcenter Share, they design and test solutions remotely, ensuring efficient implementation and customization to local challenges.   𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: Plastic Fischer aims to scale their approach with the help of partners, making a significant impact on reducing ocean plastic and protecting marine biodiversity.   To me Plastic Fischer is a perfect example of #TechnologyWithPurpose Checkout this cool video of what they do! #SolidEdge #SiemensForStartups #Sustainability
