Safety is non-negotiable 🛟 Our commitment to the well-being of our crew and ensuring operational excellence is reflected in our rigorous safety protocols. 🚨 The immersion suit that you see in this clip is a critical piece of safety equipment, designed to protect crew members from the risks of cold water exposure by minimizing heat loss in emergency situations. Every crew member onboard must be familiar with the proper use of this suit, which is why regular training is essential. In this demonstration the crew on this vessel conducted a live training exercise in the swimming pool, reinforcing their preparedness for any emergency situation 🌊 Through continuous training and a culture of safety, we ensure our crew is always ready to respond effectively, minimizing risk and prioritizing their safety at sea. 🌱 The use of alternative fuels is a key part of getting the shipping industry to net-zero. Ideally, the industry could identify the best possible option for alternative fuels, but none have the scalability to propel the entire global merchant fleet alone. Our container vessels have sophisticated systems on board that can convert seawater into clean, drinkable water – a solution that has been the lifeline for our crew for years, all by the use of heat energy from the vessel engines. Recognising the potential of unused fresh water from our ships, a simple idea by Dilip Viswajit Vishwanathan, Abhishek Balikai, and other environmentally conscious colleagues at Maersk, have grown into a powerful movement. The team has successfully trialed moving the clean water to ports that are experiencing water scarcity for essential tasks such as cleaning facilities, ship repairs, and maintenance. But the vision extends beyond ports. The fresh water can become a beacon of hope for humanitarian efforts by transporting it to inland areas and support communities struggling with water shortages and in need of aid. The dedicated team is working closely with organisations across geographical regions who share our vision.
