🔬 Workshop #1: Technical Risk and Scientific Planning 🚀 This week, our teams completed Workshop #1 of The Activator program, focusing on Technical Risk and Scientific Planning—where they learnt how to manage their venture’s scientific/technical risk in order to create value. We were delighted to have Markus Herrgård, CTO at BioInnovation Institute, open the session with a keynote talk. He shared insights into how BII evaluates technologies in terms of scientific risk and offered valuable advice on designing value-creating experiments and drive biotech ventures forward. Following the keynote, our teams engaged in two 1:1 mentoring sessions with an incredible lineup of experts from the biotech ecosystem. 💊 For our BIO teams: Stephanie Munk (Sunstone Life Science Ventures), Jan-Erik Messling (Lundbeckfonden), and Markus Herrgård (BII). 🌱 For our ECO teams: Manish K. Tiwari and Dimitri Varotsis (Novonesis), and Nick Milne (Octarine Bio). These discussions helped teams refine their scientific strategies, identify key risks, and map out the next steps in their experimental design. A huge thank you to all our experts for their time and insights! Your contributions are instrumental in shaping the next generation of biotech leaders. In partnership with Synapse DK - Life Science Connect and REBBLS. Generously funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation. #Nucleate #NucleateDenmark #Biotech #Bioentrepreneurship #Innovation #LifeSciences

💡 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 & 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽: 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗡𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸’𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 💡 In January, participants of the Nucleate Denmark Activator Program kicked off their journey with Workshop #0 on IP & Strategy, a session designed to help early-stage biotech founders navigate the complex world of IP protection and strategy. We were thrilled to have HØIBERG - European Patent Attorneys host and lead this workshop, helping our participants integrate IP into their business strategy from day one. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝗣 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 Unlike software startups, where first-mover advantage and network effects often drive success, biotech innovations require years of research, extensive regulatory approval, and significant funding before reaching the market. IP is not just legal paperwork—it’s the foundation of a biotech company’s competitive advantage. A well-thought-out IP strategy can: ✅ Attract investors by establishing clear defensibility and market positioning. ✅ Ensure freedom to operate and mitigate infringement risks. ✅ Secure ownership of key innovations, especially in spinouts from academia. ✅ Provide opportunities for licensing and revenue generation through patents. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: 1️⃣ Opening & Overview by Cerelia Caesar, part of Nucleate Denmark’s leadership, setting the stage for why IP is crucial for biotech startups. 2️⃣ Expert Lecture on IP Strategy by Jens Viktor Nørgaard, Partner at HØIBERG. 3️⃣ 1:1 Breakout Coaching Sessions providing personalised discussions on participants’ specific IP strategies, challenges, and next steps. These sessions were led by expert HØIBERG attorneys Nicolaj Zeffner Cedenius, Nadine Eckert-Boulet Bravo, Pere Monge Marcet and Carmen Sands. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗿 🔹 Investors prioritise IP when assessing biotech startups – A well-documented IP strategy helps de-risk investment by mapping the patent landscape. 🔹 Freedom to Operate should be considered at every stage. Conducting mini-FTO analyses early can identify roadblocks that could prevent market entry. 🔹 IP must be an integral part of the business strategy, not an afterthought. Startups should define an action plan ensuring both market exclusivity and access. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 This workshop provided an invaluable opportunity for biotech founders to rethink their approach to IP, ensuring they don’t just protect their inventions but leverage their IP as a strategic asset. A huge thank you to Jens Viktor and the team at HØIBERG for their expert guidance, and to all the participants for their engaging discussions! 🚀

It’s been an exciting start in 2025 for the Nucleate Denmark Cohort #2! 🙌 After the inventors matched with their contributors end of last year, we welcomed seven teams (4 BIO & 3 ECO) to the Activator 2025. To celebrate the start of this exciting program, we brought together the full cohort for a 2-day Bootcamp. Set by the beach and Kronborg Castle, the Bootcamp event framed our teams for an energising, inspiring and successful year ahead! We had the pleasure of hosting a range of exciting speakers: 🚀 Julia Nanyi Zhao, PhD, from Nucleate HQ joined us from NYC to provide a global perspective on Nucleate’s mission, highlighting its expansive community and impact in fostering biotech entrepreneurship by bridging the gap between scientific innovation and commercialisation. 🤝 In a hands-on workshop led by Leonie Kellner from BII, teams explored the importance of team dynamics for investors, identified shared values, set goals, and created a personalised team manual covering communication styles, feedback culture, and strengths. Having consolidated all this information using the digital tool Mural, the teams left with a structured foundation for long-term success. 💸 Alexander E. led a session introducing the financial fundamentals of running a startup, serving as a primer for the deeper financial topics covered in the Activator program. By combining quizzes, a seminar, and a hands-on balance sheet exercise, the teams gained an initial framework for navigating fundraising, financial planning, and investor readiness - because just like in PCR, the right primer sets you up for successful amplification. 🎲 Our Co-MD Victor Svenstrup led an engaging workshop on core topics of the Activator, ranging from technology to market to fundraising. This also helped them connect and align as a team on key concepts behind their startup - strengthening their business acumen and outlook. ⚖️ Finally, Philip Hesselbjerg from Horten Advokatpartnerselskab gave a valuable overview of key legal considerations for biotech startups to help our teams navigate and overcome legal challenges. He also shared practical strategies for negotiating deals, equipping founders with complementary knowledge needed to navigate legal complexities as they scale their ventures. Between sessions, our teams had plenty of opportunities to connect whether through lively coffee and snack breaks, a pub quiz, a classy dinner, an energizing spa session, or even bonding over the shared challenge of an ice plunge. These experiences not only strengthened personal connections but also set the stage for accelerating their biotech ventures. We can’t wait to see how their journey unfolds! A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, who spent the weekend with us to share valuable insights, create memories, and help us welcome this year’s seven teams! 🙏 Philip Gorter de Vries, PhD I Kathrine Lundø I Zehra Abay - Nørgaard I Laura Rotilio I Jinbei Li I Nils Hofmann I Walden Emil Bjørn-Yoshimoto
