Ethics
Proper journalism always requires a strong ethical foundation which provides a robust framework for responsible reporting. We have listed our core values and ethical principles below:
Accuracy – Accurate reporting is our first and foremost priority. We, at Far Out, constantly strive to present factually consistent stories and will always do so to the best of our abilities.
Impartiality – Our writers do not represent any specific political, cultural or corporate interests. While their opinions may not necessarily reflect the values of Far Out, we believe in the freedom of expression. In addition, we consider it to be an editorial duty to avoid conflicts of interest when covering stories that are not opinion pieces.
Humanistic Approach – Journalism is necessary for the development of human society and the upliftment of our community which is why we are very careful while covering sensitive subjects. We do not believe in inflicting unjustifiable harm on any individuals or groups.
Accountability – We are fully responsible for publishing any factual mistakes and welcome corrections from our readership. If you happen to spot such mistakes in our stories, please use the aforementioned contact methods.
Privacy – We understand the importance of personal privacy. That’s why we do not publish any personal information that isn’t consensual or a matter of public record. We are also careful with anonymous quotes and take care to prevent the indiscriminate usage of quotations from anonymous sources.
Coverage Priorities
As mentioned above, our writers do not act on behalf of any specific political, cultural or corporate interests, and their individual opinions do not necessarily represent Far Out’s values.
While covering stories and producing content, we always strive to ensure that the process is as impartial and transparent as possible.
Author Bylines
In order to foster a bond of trust between our readers and writers, every article is published with clear author bylines with links to their respective biographies. Links to their social channels are also available whenever applicable.
Corrections
Far Out takes mistakes in reports and stories very seriously, which is why we are responsible for messages about potential inaccuracies from our readers.
While our editorial team is committed to the task of publishing reports with factually consistent data, we are also quick to amend any potential inaccuracies. Please reach out to us at [email protected] or use the Contact Form.
Plagiarism
Far Out has no tolerance for any kind of plagiarism and is responsive to any such claims that are submitted to us. If a writer is found guilty of plagiarising their work from other uncredited sources, a disciplinary committee will be formed to decide the writer’s future relationship with Far Out.
Fact-checking
Our editorial outputs rely on constant and consistent rounds of fact-checking, and we take pride in our levels of accuracy. In order to make sure that accurate information is present in our articles, we follow these measures:
1. Writers are required to credit cited sources whenever possible.
2. It’s also important to evaluate the credibility of potential sources, especially those who have a history of peddling misinformation about sensitive subjects.
3. We also encourage writers to produce articles about their fields of expertise so that our readers are provided with knowledgeable content from experts.
4. There are clear demarcations between factual reports and opinion pieces to prevent any misunderstanding about Far Out’s stance on sensitive or controversial issues.
5. Using anonymous sources is only encouraged when the data is valuable for the story, and anonymity is a non-conditional prerequisite. Writers are required to prioritise credited sources, but if they have to use anonymous quotations, they are reminded to question the motives of anonymous sources.
6. Editors are tasked with ensuring that all our articles adhere to our strict editorial standards. Any article that falls below those standards are rectified or removed promptly.
