Behind Wärtsilä's cutting-edge technology lies an even more powerful force – our people. Paul McLaughlin, Team Leader for Propeller Repair at Wärtsilä Glasgow, exemplifies what it means to combine technical expertise with human connection. “I’ve been repairing propellers since 1990 and became Team Leader in 2004,” Paul shares. “Every time my team and I finish a job and hear positive feedback from the customer, it makes the hard work worthwhile. Repairing propellers isn’t just a skill; it’s rewarding to know we play a role in keeping vessels efficient and sustainable.” Extending the lifespan of propellers reduces not just waste but also the environmental footprint, ensuring vessels can continue to operate efficiently with fewer resources. “We do take our work seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” Paul laughs. “That sense of humour makes all the difference during challenging projects. #HotOffThePress - Wärtsilä will supply replacement engines for two inland waterway tug pusher vessels owned by ADM Naviera Chaco (ADM). The new engines will reduce the environmental impact and increase the efficiency of the tug pushers. ADM’s stated target is to reduce emissions by 25% by 2035, and the advanced Wärtsilä engine technology is an important opportunity to advance that effort in South America. “The Wärtsilä engines selected for this project have the fuel flexibility that we seek, especially as we look to the potential of alternative future fuels. At the same time, the project will help us to improve operational reliability and lower our maintenance costs.” - Raul Valdez V., Logistic Director, ADM Naviera Chaco The two vessels, which will operate in Paraguayan rivers, are the Decatur Lady and Tendota. Earlier this week, Jacob Wallenberg, Honorary Doctor of the University of Vaasa and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Investor, reminded us all of the important role investments in research and infrastructure play in driving economic growth across the Nordics and Europe. Wallenberg was presented with a doctoral hat, a sword and a diploma at the ceremony. Following the ceremony, hosted by the University of Vaasa, Wallenberg and our CEO, Håkan Agnevall, toured the university's state-of-the-art energy laboratory.   We at Wärtsilä are proud of our strategic collaboration with the University of Vaasa.
