📣 March 24th is the #WordTBDay, highlighting the importance of tuberculosis (Tb), responsible for 1.25 million of death across the world in 2023. The disease, which can be fatal, can be treated although antibiotic resistance is increasing and is a major concern.  As Tb can be transmitted from animals to humans, its detection in animal reservoirs is important to protect human health. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗭𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟲 In observance of World Zoonoses Day, here is a focus on 3 zoonotic diseases currently under watch, and our tools to detect them. Monitoring zoonoses in animals is crucial to prevent their spread to other animals or to humans.   𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗮 𝗔 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀: HPAI H5N1, a virus primarily affecting bird species, has spread to other species (swine, seals and very recently cattle in the USA). ➡ Our diagnostic tests have been upgraded to detect the disease in cattle.   𝗤 𝗳𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿: Caused by the bacterium 𝘊𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪, the disease primarily affects ruminants and can be transmitted to humans. The Philippines just reported their first case of Q fever, detected on a goat in June 2024. ➡ Our range of tests includes a serological assay for use in multiple species, including humans (RUO), and PCR kits to monitor the disease in ruminants.   𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀: The bacterium responsible for this zoonosis, 𝘉𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘨𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘪, is transmitted by ticks to multiple species including horses, dogs and humans.
