Visit our blog, the AI Wonk: https://oecd.ai/wonk/ The OECD AI Policy Observatory is a tool at the disposal of governments and businesses that they can use to implement the first intergovernmental standard on AI: the OECD AI Principles. The OECD AI Principles focus on how governments and other actors can shape a human-centric approach to trustworthy AI. The Observatory includes a blog for its group of international AI experts (ONE AI) to discuss issues related to defining AI and how to implement the OECD Principles. OECD countries adopted the standards in May 2019, along with a range of partner economies. The OECD AI Principles provided the basis for the G20 AI Principles endorsed by Leaders in June 2019. OECD.AI combines resources from across the OECD, its partners and all stakeholder groups. OECD.AI facilitates dialogue between stakeholders while providing multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy analysis in the areas where AI has the most impact. As an inclusive platform for public policy on AI – the OECD AI Policy Observatory is oriented around three core attributes: Multidisciplinarity The Observatory works with policy communities across and beyond the OECD – from the digital economy and science and technology policy, to employment, health, consumer protection, education and transport policy – to consider the opportunities and challenges posed by current and future AI developments in a coherent, holistic manner. Evidence-based analysis The Observatory provides a centre for the collection and sharing of evidence on AI, leveraging the OECD’s reputation for measurement methodologies and evidence-based analysis. Global multi-stakeholder partnerships The Observatory engages governments and a wide spectrum of stakeholders – including partners from the technical community, the private sector, academia, civil society and other international organisations – and provides a hub for dialogue and collaboration.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹? Access to justice is a fundamental right, yet millions worldwide struggle to obtain legal support due to cost, complexity, or systemic barriers. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to bridge this gap—but only if we design and deploy it responsibly. In a recent blog post for the AI Wonk, Zainab Malik, Maaike de Langen, Mariane Piccinin Barbieri, Ronald Lenz, and Tatyana Teplova, PhD explore how AI can improve legal access and outcomes while ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲: 🔹 AI’s potential to make legal information more accessible 🔹 Innovative justice tech solutions are already making an impact 🔹 Risks and ethical considerations of AI in justice 🔹 The importance of a human-centred approach to AI in legal systems 🔹 How HiiL | User-friendly Justice is working with the OECD to promote its Recommendation on Access to Justice and People-Centred Justice Systems This conversation is critical as AI increasingly shapes our societies. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗜? At the AI Action Summit, co-organised by the OECD and the UK AI Security Institute (AISI), policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders gathered to tackle one of the most pressing questions in AI governance: Where should we draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable risks in AI development? In their recent article, Eunseo Dana Choi and Dylan Rogers summarise key insights from the panel discussion. The discussion emphasized that setting risk thresholds isn’t just a technical challenge—it’s a societal one. As AI continues to evolve, ensuring responsible innovation will require ongoing dialogue between policymakers, developers, and the public.
