Standing 45 meters tall, the iconic Al-Habda minaret is once again part of Mosul’s skyline. A true symbol of cultural heritage, its destruction in 2017 was a devastating loss. Rebuilding it was no small task, but UNESCO took on the challenge—restoring it to its original, iconic incline using as much traditional material as possible. Today, the minaret regains its former glory, standing as a testament to resilience heritage, and the power of international cooperation. On #InternationalWomensDay 2025, UNESCO amplified the voices of Afghan girls and women, calling for their rights to be restored. We were honored to welcome Shamsia Hassani, Afghanistan’s first female graffiti artist, whose bold murals challenge stereotypes and portray Afghan women as strong, ambitious, and unbreakable. Before exile, she was a dedicated art educator in Kabul, inspiring the next generation of Afghan artists. To mark the occasion, Shamsia unveiled a powerful new artwork at UNESCO: https://lnkd.in/e-4MhS2J #LetAfghanGirlsLearn #WomensDay
