Thanks a lot to Dimitri Chichlo, GEMBA 17, for joining my INSEAD class on Understanding and Managing Risk focused on responding to crises. According to Dimitri, preparation is key. Also, you need to realize that you are in a crisis and quickly switch to a crisis management mode, even though the consequences may be minimal. Don’t eliminate any valuable information, analogous to forensic data on a crime scene. Dimitri reminded us that the first reaction after the explosion of the 2003 Columbia space shuttle was to “shut the doors” to be able to retain all the tangible evidence. This reminded me of the Jidoka principle in the Toyota Production System, which aims at solving problems where they arise, and not later in a clinic. Finally, Dimitri stressed the power of playbooks and simulations against a variety of disasters (hostages, fires, floods, cyberattacks). Even though no two crises are equal, getting trained on a variety would improve our ability to respond to the next one.

"Is #leadership born or made" is a question that still intrigues people in organizations and society more broadly. Our research traces the route from early #socioeconomic adversity or affluence through #self-control behaviors at age 10, psychological well-being at 16, to whether you hold a leadership position at age 26 or not. Those raised in socioeconomic affluence benefited from continual opportunities that put them in a better position to win leadership selection competitions early in their careers. Those exposed to early socioeconomic adversity were deprived of the resources, such as stable family environments, better schools, and peer relations, that help you develop the childhood self-control and adolescent mental health that fosters early leadership. I had the honor of discussing on the theme "#Revolutionizing #Education: The #Path to #Nation #Building" as a panelist in a webinar organized by #Uniathena. All development becomes possible through education. Talking about the education revolution means that there was a previous education system that no longer meets the current development needs of the country. Hence the need to design a new education system capable of integrating everyone into the economic contribution to the GDP in each Nation. Our meeting took place around 3 objectives, namely: 1-Understanding the essence of revolutionizing education. 2-Understanding the #role of #education in the nation building. 3-Understanding #how to #implement this #new #educational #system in the #sustainable #development of our nation. The Vision is to establish a new education system based on more ingenious, direct and pragmatic learning where each primary school to universities will have #manufacturing "#workshops, #laboratories and #control, "economic and "legal "centers. It is no longer normal to train #students for 14 to 18 years of schooling before getting them to #contribute to #economic #development in our countries. We need to rethink the system. -Most #graduates don't know #how #to #sell a #product or #service or #how to #advocate for #themselves in life. -Despite most projects carried out in high schools & universities, #students #notice #a #difference #between #their #classroom #lessons and #reality #in #companies. That must change. -What's the point of having intelligent students who contribute nothing to the #country's #GDP? -What is the point of having an education system out of step with the realities of the professional and business world? -It is unacceptable to wait in the future to have graduate students before recruiting them. It is time to think about a new system where #each #layer #of #Society #contributes to the #lasting and #sustained #development of #the #Nation.
