About us
Banking & Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI) is the voice of banking and payments in Ireland. Delivering a range of services through our specialist team, BPFI also offers an Associate network through which we offer many of the benefits of membership to the leading professional service firms that provide related advisory and consultancy services. Banking & Payments Federation Ireland was established in 2014 following the integration of the Irish Banking Federation (IBF) and the Irish Payment Services Organisation (IPSO) which had been in existence since 1997. IBF was established in 1973 on Ireland’s accession to the European Economic Community to represent the sector’s interests abroad as well as domestically. It had its origins in the Irish Banks Standing Committee which had operated as the industry’s voice since 1922.

BPFI’s Housing Market Monitor Q4 2024 published today shows that around 75,000 housing units could be completed in the next two years, based on commencement activity, but inefficiencies in the system relating to land, capital and labour issues will need to be addressed to provide significantly more homes in the short term. Outlining the key findings from the monitor, Brian Hayes, Chief Executive of BPFI stated: “Today’s report shows that while there was a 6.7% decline in housing completions in 2024, solely driven by the fall in the level of apartment completions, more than 69,000 new homes commenced in 2024, more than the total number of homes started in 2022 and 2023 combined. Some 43% of those housing starts were apartments. However, we estimate that at least half of the total number of homes commenced during 2024 were due to the uncertainty about the extension of the development levy waiver in April (later extended until December) and water connection charge refund arrangement expiring in September.” Read full details on https://lnkd.in/ezgKgsbQ #housing

BPFI hosted today the inaugural meeting of Ireland’s new Cross-Sector Anti-Fraud Forum, bringing together key stakeholders from financial services sector, telecommunications, online platforms and their respective regulator along with government and An Garda Síochána, to enhance collaboration in the fight against fraud. Speaking ahead of today’s meeting, Niamh Davenport, Head of Financial Crime, BPFI and Chair of the Anti-Fraud Forum said: “The establishment of this Forum marks a significant milestone in Ireland’s approach to tackling fraud. Fraud is an ever-evolving challenge, with criminals exploiting new technologies and cross-border tactics. By bringing together all the key players around one table, this Forum will help drive a more unified and proactive response to emerging threats. Criminals do not operate in silos, and neither can we. By working together across sectors, we can better protect consumers, businesses, and the integrity of the financial system."
