New paths for diversity in innovation in Israel are emerging through a collaboration between Sheba Medical Center and the Druze community. An initiative, established by Sheba Impact, ARC Innovation, and Ofakim LaAtid ("Future Horizons")—and led by Amir Hasson, a dedicated member of the Sheba team and the Druze community—connects talented Druze entrepreneurs with mentors and resources. Five innovative entrepreneurs recently showcased their solutions at a breakthrough panel, marking the beginning of this transformative program. "If we, as civil society and hospitals, don't lead the change, it simply won't happen. That's why we started this initiative," shares Prof. Arnon Afek, Associate Director General at Sheba. For the first time in Israel, a groundbreaking collaboration between Magen David Adom (MDA) and Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem is significantly reducing waiting times for patients arriving at the emergency room. This innovative partnership enables the seamless transfer of critical medical information from MDA to the hospital, allowing for faster and more efficient care. As part of this collaboration, the Shaare Zedek information systems team developed a cutting-edge solution that automatically transfers patient records from MDA ambulances and intensive care units directly into the hospital’s systems. This technology eliminates the need for hospital staff to re-enter details upon the patient’s arrival, ensuring a smoother transition and quicker treatment. Since the system’s launch three months ago, it has already processed over 6,000 patients, with an average of 50 ambulances per day—accounting for around 40% of the ambulances arriving at Shaare Zedek’s emergency department. In the coming weeks, the system will expand to include both the pediatric and women's emergency rooms, further enhancing its impact and reach.
