But last year, we hit a new milestone: over $1 million in revenue for 2 different clients on Black Friday alone. Here's the strategy that made it happen: 1. Maximize Ad Uptime In Q4, every minute of ad visibility is crucial. I'm talking about true 24/7 uptime, especially during peak shopping periods. Here's why: - Shopping behavior is unpredictable. Your biggest sale might happen at 3 AM. - Competitors often neglect off-hours, giving you an edge. - Consistent presence builds trust with potential customers. Pro Tip: Set up alerts for any ad disapprovals or budget depletions. React immediately. 2. Product-Centric Budget Allocation Not all products deserve equal ad spend. I focus on: - High-profit items: These are your margin makers. Even if they're not top sellers, they contribute most to your bottom line. - Repeat purchase drivers: Products that get customers to come back. These build your customer base. - High LTV products: Items that typically lead to larger cart values or frequent repeat purchases. 3. Manual Optimization Beats AI During & Post Sales Events (For Now) Google's AI is impressive, but it's not perfect. Here's where manual intervention makes a difference: - Budgets: I often reallocate budgets multiple times a day during peak periods. Move money from underperforming campaigns to winners in real-time. - Bids: React to competition and market changes. During flash sales, I might adjust bids every hour. 4. Strategic Timing Q4 isn't just about Black Friday. Here's my typical timeline: - Early November: Start ramping up. Test ad copies, land top placements. - Two weeks before Black Friday: Increase budgets gradually. You're warming up the algorithm. - Black Friday/Cyber Monday: Go all out. Be prepared for round-the-clock management. - Early December: Maintain momentum for gift shoppers. - Mid-December: Focus on last-minute deals and express shipping. 5. Data-Driven Decision Making In Q4, gut feelings don't cut it. I monitor: - ROAS (Return on Ad Spend): Aim for 3x minimum (just a guideline, I’ve seen many able to operate on lower than this) but during peak days, I've seen 30x+. - revenue per visitors: aim for higher than your rolling 90 day average - Average order value: Increase this with strategic upsells and cross-sells. - New vs. Returning customer ratio: Adjust strategies to balance acquisition and retention. Scrape website information, pick out a recent customer from their case studies or testimonial, and compliment them on the result in the email 11. Search for another decision maker on their team, and have a PS line "Hey, should I reach out to your VP Christian instead?" 12. Summarize the companys focus or mission as a first line: "I saw you're focused on XYZ, so I thought this would be useful for you..." 13. Mention a competitor of theirs "We can help you grow bigger than XYZ down the block" ➡️The possibilities are endless! AppsFlyer recently put out their state of ad creatives report for app marketing in Q2 2024 where they analyzed 220k creative variations from 2k apps. There was some really interesting highlights, especially for non-gaming brands. The two most important components: 1) On paid social channels like Meta and TikTok, UGC ads see a 22% higher install per impression rate (IPM) compared to non-UGC ads for non-gaming apps. Use of real-life footage also yields better results in non-gaming, with a 15% higher IPM than animated ads. 2) Only 2% of ads make up for 68% of budgets, while almost 90% of spending is directed towards just 10% of ads. What does this mean for marketer with non-gaming apps? 1) Because UGC finds its niche on social networks, an environment where this content is native, you should be testing this type of ad format ASAP if you haven't already. Not using this ad type could be restricting your potential and hindering performance. 2) Creating numerous and diverse variations—a common strategy—is essential to the success of your campaign because only 1 of 50 is a winner. Scoring a winning ad can have a significant impact, but as ad fatigue sets in, the cycle of needing fresh winners refresh indefinitely. Volume and consistent testing are your path to success.
