“All across the world we talk about interoperability. There are lots of initiatives trying to ‘solve’ it. But we are still scratching the surface,” Kumar Satyam, digital health consultant and chair for the technical committee at HL7 India. When we caught up with Kumar Satyam, we discussed his views on the importance of interoperability and de-centralisation within healthcare, sharing examples of his work in this area in practice as well as his hopes for the future and his views on the digital healthcare landscape within India. We're still scratching the surface of what data and interoperability can do for healthcare, says Kumar Satyam, digital health consultant and chair for the technical committee at HL7 India in Health Tech News. With AI taking an increasingly important role, Kumar notes that "interoperability plays a vital role in the revolution of AI because it ensures that your data quality is maintained and your data provenance is there”. India is also exploring how a federated data model can work at scale, with 350 million+ health records on a decentralised health network. Finally the #FhirIndia Community had its first meetup in #Hyderabad on 28th Sept.This was also the first hybrid #meetup. Glimpses of discussions. #AI will disrupt how interoperability is practiced today. #India will lead the #digitalhealth transformation because of its social structure and consumer driven health. #FHIR usecases are diverse and possibilities immense. heard of ESR ? About 70 in attendance on a Saturday morning and stayed through the 3 hour event.The Day was filled with meaningful interactions, discussions and thoughtful questions and responses. Thanks to the volunteering speakers & presenters for sharing their experience and knowledge. Arun Kumar talked about #Hl7 org and its standards and the role hl7 plays in advancing interoperability. Chandra Shekhar Sengupta introduced #IHE and ihe #profiles using fhir and role IHE plays in Interoperability. Kush Dwivedi presented on #Interoperability, its definition, levels and its importance in care delivery. J P Pattanaik (JP) shared his experience on working with Hl7v2 to fhir conversion. One of the important topics when it comes to adoption of fhir. Syam Adusumilli talked about #sdoh and #gravity project , fhir #sharding and introduced us to Concept of electronic social record and how #fhir is being used to enable #ESR. And of course we ended the day with #hyderabadi biryani. All this would not have been possible without Jaya Shankar Parimi , who played the perfect host. Gaining proficiency in Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (#FHIR) has been high on my list of professional goals ever since I joined Verily in April 2022. Though, aside from just learning it, I wanted a way to measure whether I actually understood the material. After a bit of browsing for FHIR resources (pun intended), I came across Health Level Seven International's certifications and saw that one existed for HL7 FHIR R4 Proficiency and knew that I'd sit for the exam at some point in the future. Further, HL7 introduced a new set of FHIR certifications in 2024, including a new 'Foundation' certification that replaces HL7 FHIR R4 Proficiency which will retire in December 2024. Of course, I also added that to my list of professional goals. As of last month, I sat for and passed both exams and received the certifications.
