Hidden Cost of Wound Care Wound incidences have significantly increased in recent years owing to a rise in the aging population, higher prevalence of non-communicable diseases, and road traffic injuries. Surgeries performed on hospitalized patients also produce wounds that must be cared for. Wounds are a major financial burden on the patients and the healthcare system, accounting for around 4% of total healthcare costs. The total cost of wound care has three major obvious/direct components: 1. Cost of the wound care materials: 15-20% 2. Nursing cost: 30-35% 3. Hospitalization cost: 50% or more Apart from the obvious cost, wound care is associated with a high magnitude of “hidden cost”, and the hidden cost seems to outweigh the obvious cost. Much of the “hidden cost” of wound care is not apparent because it is contributed by “hidden factors”, like: 1. Repetitive need of dressing change 2. Cost of biomedical waste collection and disposal 3. Traveling cost and time 4. Productivity and income loss Interestingly, advanced wound care tools and technologies can drastically reduce the “hidden cost” of wound care. For instance, a foam-based wound dressing with negative pressure wound therapy requires around 2 changes per week while traditional gauze dressings need to be changed daily, sometimes twice a day. This has the potential to reduce many associated indirect costs (travel costs, energy consumption, waste disposal, etc.) along with direct clinical benefits. #Woudncare #woundhealing #NPWT #InoHeal #woundmanagement #wounds #Advancedwoundcare

The Medtech Mitra initiative is a significant step towards empowering MedTech startups by providing them with appropriate regulatory guidance and easing the process of obtaining regulatory approvals. We are glad to share that Inochi Care was invited to the “Workshop on Handholding Support to MedTech Innovators: Essentials of Regulation Compliant Clinical Investigation under the Medtech Mitra: A NITI Aayog-ICMR-CDSCO Initiative”. Inochi Care was represented by our CEO, Dr. Shivani Gupta, who shared her experience with medical device design & development, applicable regulatory compliance, and the process of obtaining required regulatory approvals for compliant clinical studies. Her insights on product development and the Indian medical device regulatory landscape helped the early-stage MedTech innovators in devising the regulatory roadmap for their products. We are thankful to the ICMR-MDMS for this opportunity. Dr.Suchita Markan #MedTechMitra #MedTech Startups #Innovation #RegulatoryCompliance #ICMR #CDSCO #NitiAayog #AtmaNirbharBharat
