HR news update: India's gig workers demand social security now The Gig Workers Association (GigWA) is advocating for the extension of social security benefits, including employees' state insurance (ESI) and provident fund (PF), to gig workers. Following a government initiative to register aggregators and their workers on the e-Shram portal, GigWA proposed a shared cost model for these benefits among gig workers, aggregators, and the government. Nitesh Das, organising secretary of GigWA, emphasised the necessity for social security, stating: "We need the same protections afforded to formal workers." The association commended the Ministry of Labour and Employment for its efforts, including a toll-free helpline and a standard operating procedure for worker registration. A meeting on September 18 between Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya and aggregators is anticipated to address compliance and enhance the integration of gig workers into the social security framework.

Regulatory approaches differ by #region, with varying responses to #GenAI advancements. The EU's 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (#GDPR) mandates data controllers and processors to implement appropriate 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 and appoint data protection officers for certain high-risk operations. A wonderful 2 hour session yesterday with lots of insights and learning from the master of community facilitation and development Lawrence Philbrook, Dir ICA. Some of the key insights and takeaways for me personally were 1. Many a time clients/communities look up to you ,the facilitator as an expert and expect expert advice. You dont walk away from it saying you are the process facilitator but rather adapt your process to accomodate both perspectives , yours and theirs . But ensure the group is aware that the decision and choices are theirs. 2. One of the biggest challenges in working with communities is their ability to pay . Use it as an opportunity to contribute with love, hone your skills and invite budding facilitators to join the process so that they can learn and grow . 3. There is a huge difference facilitating for communities where you are a member and have a stake , and facilitating as an outsider. 4. Every member of a group is facilitating (consciously /unconsiously ). We are all impacting each other. The most impactful one for me was this 5. Stay attentive,and navigate the present.
