Great to see some of the #Startups doing excellent work in green and paperless #manufacturing and #utilities, solving deep industrial problems which I have been chasing for some time using #IOT and #AI! My two cents which I shared a) Industry Academia tech collaboration is must to root out industry problems to achieve higher efficiency, productivity, waste reduction and green earth. b) There are plenty of problems to solve. c) Precision is not about technology alone, without precision of data and business knowledge, to get tangible return. d) Industry looks at returns. CIO / CDOs have to step up. Business leaders must understand the nuances of technologies.

I was privileged to attend an extremely simple, yet insightful session on leadership by Mr. Vijay Sethi at the CIO&Leader conference as an ITNext100 Future CIO awardee. He shared 5 mantra's which essentially are integral for building the basic character for being a good leader. 1. Have good work ethics 2. Always have a positive attitude. 3. Nurture & inspire our teams 4. Focus on regularly enhancing our knowledge 5. Be a good human being. All of the above is nothing, if the leader does not demonstrate integrity, he said. One thing that resonated with me the most was his statement - "Good leaders do not create followers, they create more good leaders.". This statement brought back memories of my first tryst with formal leadership education when as a beginner in my professional journey I read the book, Good to Great - Jim Collins, where the author talks about Level 5 leadership who channelize their energies to build successors for their organizations. Something which had become a benchmark of my perspective of good leadership ever since. Creating perpetual organizations which transcend individuals. Of course, Mr. Vijay was talking about building good leaders at societal and business community level, which transcends organizations. As Dr. Prashun Dutta shared in his insights, it is our duty to repay the debt to society by contributing back and enabling others to become good leaders. All in all, a memorable and insightful weekend, where stalwarts took us back to first principles. We design, develop & implement systems in close coordination with business partners, and deeply value their contribution.   CLIENT City & District Police of various jurisdictions of Gujarat State (India) PROBLEM > Citizens apply for several permissions & certificates to the local police HQ (Commissioner of Police for a city, & Superintendent of Police for a district) > The applications are for permissions for opening an eatery or a petrol / diesel station, to sell firecrackers, to have a procession (private or public), to carry firearms, passport verification, police clearance certificate (PCC), etc. > The citizen would submit 3 identical sets of documents at the Police Chief's office, get them signed & stamped, submit 2 copies, and carry one back home > One copy would be filed in Police Chief's Office, and other would be sent to relevant police station through hierarchy (Commissioner > Deputy Comm > Asst Comm > Police Station). Staff from police station verified application & recommend approval or rejection, recorded on the physical copy, and it would again climb the ladder of jurisdiction, and the citizen would come and collect it > Movement of application would take significant time, citizens & officials would have to spend time & effort tracing the application & its status   SOLUTION > Implemented in collaboration with our partner firm M/s eSec Security Systems Pvt Ltd (www.esecconsultants.com) > Barcode-based solution, with browser-based application and an Android-based interface > The application is named AASAAN (= “simple” in Hindi), an acronym for “Timely processing of applications” (AAvedano ka SAAmayik Nivaran) > Classification of application types & sub-types is pre-loaded in system, with approx no of days to process the application > The citizen submits just one set of documents, which are scrutinized by the Police Operator at Chief’s Office, and receipts (2 copies) are printed > Applications are barcoded for unique identification using an alphanumeric series > Citizen gets an SMS acknowledging receipt of the application in vernacular language and English, mentioning the no of days it will take to process it > Application is scanned in by the operator at receiving office using barcode, & system is updated, creating a digital footprint of the application > Senior officers (including Police Chief) get a daily auto-generated email which shows them useful analytics. > They can drill down to any application, determine its progress and delays, and follow up for faster processing > Reports & dashboards provided for monitoring & analysis, used by the officials to remove bottlenecks THE RESULT > Significantly improved Traceability of application > Significant reduction in pendency (typical nos: before AASAAN 30,000 pending, after AASAAN 300 pending) > Great user experience, increased efficiency & enhanced citizens' experience

Proud to be featured as a reliable voice on the topic of #GenAI in an article published in TOI, 24th May, 2024. On the other hand, artificial intelligence (AI) experts said that despite these new-age tech tools at everyone’s disposal, it may not be so easy to generate a fake ID that passes muster — if vigilance is tight. Anirudh Asher, founder at AI consultancy firm Atomic Asher, said, “Easily available generative AI like OpenAI’s Dall E 3, Bing AI and Midjourney tend to have layers of ethical checks to ensure that some output cannot be used for unethical means. While IDs can be manipulated through prompt engineering, there’s always the hurdle of getting AI to generate legible text. Engaging fireside chat panel discussion, the opening session, at the 'Smart CIO Summit & Awards'. The session was expertly hosted by Manish Panjwani (CTO, Shriram Automall India Group) and I was joined by fellow panelist Rajat Khatri (AVP, FNP).
