Blockchain emerges as an optimal remedy for challenges faced by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The World Economic Forum asserts that blockchain can bridge the global trade financing gap, offering SMEs a tool to enhance their global supply chain operations. Blockchain technology significantly improves deep-tier supply chain finance (SCF), offering smart contracts, immutability, transparency, and traceability. It has transformed SCF by streamlining processes and enhancing trust among stakeholders. Delhi-NCR-based MasterChow has raised $6.5 Mn in its Series A round led by Singapore-based Tanglin Venture Partners, sources told Inc42👇 The funding round also saw participation from Peak XV Partners’ Surge, Anicut Capital, the D2C brand’s existing investor WEH Ventures, among others. MasterChow plans to utilise the fresh capital for launch of new products and expanding its offline presence. The fresh funding comes almost a year after MasterChow raised $3.2 Mn in its Pre-Series A round from Surge and other investors. This funding round was unreported till now. “MasterChow wants to become a household name with their noodles, sauces and condiments,” one of the sources said, adding that the startup’s ARR for the ongoing financial year (FY25) is at INR 50 Cr. #news #startup #funding

iSAFE Notes In India: Significance And Advantages #iSAFE (India SAFE) is an adaptation of the SAFE (Simple Agreement For Future Equity) document. Commonly used for seed-stage funding, they allow startups to raise funds quickly without valuation complexity. #100X.VC, an early-stage investment firm in India was the first to introduce the iSAFE in India in July 2019. It entails an agreement to acquire equity shares of a startup at a later date. #An iSAFE note is not a debt instrument but a convertible security note beneficial for both startups and investors. #In India, iSAFE note takes a legal form of Compulsorily Convertible Preference Shares (CCPS) which are convertible on the occurrence of specific events. #They are governed by sections 42, 62, and 55 of the Companies Act, 2013 read with Companies (Share Capital and Debentures) Rules, 2014 and Companies (Prospectus and Allotment of Securities) Rules, 2014. #Issuing iSAFE notes does away with the valuation exercise since the valuation is essentially postponed to a later date (when the priced round happens) #An outstanding iSAFE note would be referenced on the startup’s cap table like any other convertible security. The Indian venture capital ecosystem is undergoing rapid transformation as micro VCs and early-stage investors step in to fill the void left by larger firms. These micro VCs are increasingly willing to take on bets that their larger counterparts might avoid, driving innovation and providing crucial support to emerging startups in the country. As a result, the Indian startup landscape is poised for growth, with a new wave of investors fuelling the next generation of entrepreneurial success. They may write smaller cheques, but they back up startups way earlier in their evolution. The latest entrant in this sphere is AJVC, a Rs 100 crore sector agnostic pre-seed stage investment fund led by industry insider Aviral Bhatnagar. Other notables in the field include Better Capital, Java Capital, and Sauce VC - the last being the backer of such notable brands as XYXX, Mokobara, and The Whole Truth. The Indian VC story is no longer one of founders racing to raise hundreds of millions in capital, often without a product or a well-formed business model. Instead, customer-centric startups with strong leadership and promising growth plans are set to prosper. The emergence of micro VCs couldn’t have come at a better time.

Is the Indian market under leveraging the potential of debt funding? India’s debt funding game is wide open. Corporations need it for expansion, while SMEs and startups rely on it to fuel growth. Add in booming infrastructure projects and the steady rise of home and personal loans, and the scope is massive! Yet, we’re barely scratching the surface. India’s equity market is thriving. Our total market cap just hit a record $5.5 trillion in May 2024, as per Bloomberg. The country’s growth ambitions, however—which include becoming the third-largest economy by 2027 and a developed nation by 2047—are at risk without a liquid and deep debt market. Ecommerce giant Zetwerk has received approval from the board to raise INR 565.5 Cr (around $66.6 Mn) in a funding round to be led by Khosla Ventures, along with participation from The Schiehallion Fund and others👇 Of the total amount, about INR 253.2 Cr will be invested by Khosla Ventures, while INR 169 Cr will be infused by The Schiehallion Fund, the company said in a filing. As per the filing, Zetwerk’s board passed a resolution to issue 1,30,68,091 Series F3 compulsory convertible preferred shares at an issue price of INR 432.7 each. This comes close on the heels of the company looking to raise $1 Bn via initial public offering (IPO). It had already initiated discussions with investment banker JP Morgan for its potential IPO.
