The GLUTES - performance & prevention Here are my thoughts on the GLUTES for the athlete 🍑🍑; 1. The glutes are critical for performance & injury prevention 2. A large .% issues of the lower body can be due to lack of glute activation/strength 3. A high % of athletes that I see have low glute connection/activity leading to injury or poor performance 4. There are 3 glutes ...max (big), min (small) & med (small) ...each have specific roles 5. The 5 roles are...hip extension, abduction, external rotation, tilt the pelvis posteriorly & stabilise the hip... 6. The glutes protect the hip, knee, back & hamstring from injury ...so it would make sense for athletes to develop them 7. I complete both activation (mini band, big band, body weight etc) & strength/power based work (RDL"s, hip thrusts, jumps, throws, sprint & lifts) for development of the glutes 8. Remember the first hip extensor is the glutes & the second the hamstrings...for optimal development of the posterior chain train as ONE unit not in isolation (think full kinetic chain) 9. I develop the posterior chain (glute/ham complex) via bent leg (glute focus) & straight leg (hamstring focus) hip extension ...depending on the length-tension relationship will dictate the prime mover and the synergist (helper) muscle..in short the shorter the hamstring the more contribution through the glutes ... 10. My favourite movement to develop the glutes would be the hip thrust + band which develops the glutes at extension & abduction (two birds-one stone) 11. Use high reps for endurance (15 +), moderate reps for growth (8-12) & low reps for strength (3-6) ..pick the reps, choose the load and develop the glutes 12. Sprinting & jumping ...2 critical athletic movements all need the glutes for hip extension! This is why such an emphasis is placed on developing the glutes & the posterior chain in my programs #changingthegame

Moreover, during a vacation, athletes often experience new environments and cultures, which can stimulate their creativity and inspire fresh ideas. A recent study published in the Lancet Global Health along with World Health Organization data shows a disturbing trend that physical inactivity is rising in India and the world. Sufficient physical activity is defined by WHO as doing 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity, 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity, or an equivalent combination per week. Key findings are as follows: 1. Half of Indian adult population is insufficiently physical active. This figure was 22% in 2000. 2. 57% adult females in India are insufficiently physical active, compared to 42% of adult males. 3. Women are less active than men by an average of 5 percentage points globally. This has not changed since 2000. 4. Globally, almost 1/3rd of adults (1.8 billion people) are not doing sufficient physical activity. 5. Prevalence of insufficient physical activity globally has increased from 23% in 2000 to 31% in 2022. It is well known that lack of physical activity increases the risk of diseases like heart attack, stroke and diabetes. It is surprising that so many people still fail to meet the basic recommendation for physical activity. It's been almost 10 years since I started my own fitness journey. When I began running I could hardly run 500 m without panting and huffing. From amateur runner to Ironman triathlete I have covered a large distance in a decade. This has been possible because I took charge of my health and I have remained consistent in doing my workouts. It makes me wonder when people say they don't have time for workout. The least we can do for a healthy life is to keep aside at least 30 minutes every day for our body. I give 10-12 hours every week for my endurance and strength training. From my personal experience, when I am physically active I am more happy and productive, I tend to eat healthy, I am better equipped to handle stress, and I am less likely to fall sick. So being physically active is not only to prevent diseases, but also to live and feel healthy on a daily basis, in everything that you do.
