Puteho's story reflects the devastating toll of the #ElNiño -induced drought in #Zambia’s Western Province. "I planted a lot of crops, but I didn’t manage to harvest even a single grain," she says. Once able to feed her family three meals a day and sell surplus maize, her household now survives on just one meal a day. Thankfully, WFP had purchased a drought insurance policy from ARC Replica, an innovative disaster risk management tool for humanitarian organizations, helping WFP to provide assistance to help people like Puteho through the drought. Puteho’s family is one of 160,000 households receiving assistance over a period of six months. The US$30 she has received so far has helped the family purchase essentials like maize, relish, and salt. 💡 With over 1.2 million people impacted by the drought in Zambia, WFP is responding alongside the government, offering support during the lean season.
