Together with industry partners Actualia, IDM-UPV and ITENE, Eurofins IPROMA in Spain has been taking part in the AQUASERS project which aims to develop innovative biotechnological tools to detect emerging pathogens in water. 💧 What's the objective of the project? To create an autonomous device that can continuously monitor and optimise water quality, thereby minimising the risk of Legionnaires' disease (a type of pneumonia caused by the bacterium Legionella pneumophila) in high-risk water environments, for example, within water coolers, bathing areas, and water sanitation systems. Since the launch of the project in September 2023, Eurofins IPROMA's specialised knowledge has been fundamental to implementing advanced Legionella pneumophila detection techniques according to the UNE-EN ISO 11731 water quality standard. This expertise has already enabled Eurofins IPROMA to lead the development of innovative biosensors that can detect Legionella pneumophila in real time. Eurofins IPROMA has also been leading the biological analysis and characterisation of environmental matrices as part of the project, implementing digital dashboards for real-time management of water quality. These technological advances are helping to transform water quality control, offering automated solutions to reduce the risks associated with waterborne diseases. Eurofins announces the successful closing of the acquisition of SYNLAB’s clinical diagnostics operations in Spain and the transfer of operations to Eurofins, which took place on 31 March 2025. SYNLAB’s clinical diagnostics operations in Spain comprise clinical diagnostics testing services, including genetics and anatomical pathology services provided throughout the country, which achieved revenues of EUR 140m in 2024. These strongly complement the Eurofins network’s existing clinical diagnostics operations in Spain, led by Eurofins Megalab, a specialist in all types of clinical diagnostics testing and in managing intra-hospital laboratories. Imagine biting into asparagus and realising that it's not actually asparagus at all... Eurofins Food and Feed Testing laboratories are renowned for successfully investigating the most challenging problems in food, beverages, and packaging. One area of focus for these laboratories is food contamination. A vegetable processing company asked one of our Food Testing teams in the US to isolate and identify something unusual in their processed asparagus. Landfills are far from just an eyesore – materials in landfills can leach toxic compounds into soil, rivers, and oceans as they degrade. To mark #InternationalDayOfZeroWaste, we're highlighting how Eurofins Consumer Products Assurance’s ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ programme helps participating companies to divert approximately 99% of waste away from landfills through a myriad of measures, including reusing, recycling, repurposing, or generating energy from this waste, or using biodegradable materials instead. If waste is managed effectively, costs associated with manufacturing and waste management will be reduced, and environmental impacts will be minimised.
