If illness teaches us what's really important in life, MALADIE are doing it alright. Because their music knows no musical boudaries nor artistic pigeonholes, but challenges the listeners, and rewards them with sound experiences that are unlike anything else.

On “Symptoms IV”, MALADIE show themselves to be more open to traditional metal and even hard rock without sounding outdated in their songs. Once again, they manage to retain their (sick) DNA and the associated avant-garde approach, which on the one hand makes them sound unmistakably like MALADIE, although MALADIE have never sounded like this before!? Exactly this paradox has accompanied the German band since their foundation in 2009. You think you've got the gist of what's coming at you, a jazzy saxophone excursion, black metal screams emerge (which also lead to
the band's black metal roots), or a Hammond organ melody comes out of nowhere.

MALADIE fight their own “sick” battle, and they do so from the gripping opener 'The Calm Mind' to “rockers” like 'Becoming' or 'Rebirth' and balladic moments like 'Between The Stars' to the final 'Art Is God', which combines all the attributes on “Symptoms IV” and leads to the climax.

so many gems in this album but after i went through this in order for my review, i kept returning to this anguished call to humanity, an emblem of despair in vast nothingness. a shred of hope dashed, as this album as a whole speaks to the annihilation of the ideals of humanity and the pedestals they sit on - and what happens when we watch all that shatter. there are plenty of outer space themed albums, but VORGA brings us something worth listening to. mintymetal

Everything comes together extremely well in this album. Probably my all time favorite black metal album now. The mix of atmospheric almost shoegaze playing leads extremely well into the intensity black metal normally has. The saxophone they use on almost all the songs really puts it above others in the genre for me. DevilsKnock
