The 54th edition of the Alt Goes Mainstream AGM Weekly newsletter is out! The €20M soccer match. I’m still thinking about the electric scenes after attending last night’s UEFA Champions League match at Wembley Stadium between Real Madrid C.F. and Borussia Dortmund, where Real made the most of its chances and lifted the trophy with a 2-0 victory. The Champions League is the pinnacle moment in European club football. It’s why the best players in the world go to Europe — for a chance to play in the match that defines a European club’s season. It also happens to have a lot on the line for the business side of these clubs. Former Blackstone & Airbnb CFO and Founder & Managing Partner of WestCap Laurence A. Tosi said on a recent Alt Goes Mainstream podcast that “scale begets scale.” Well, in sports, that quote could be translated into “success begets success.” That’s certainly the case for clubs that advance through the stages of the Champions League. The prize for winning last night’s match? €20M. A win last night meant that Real would pocket a total cash prize of around €118.5M. A win for Dortmund would bring home €102.1M, according to Diario AS. Add €100M in additional revenues to the club’s income statement and those figures start to look incredibly meaningful. Congratulations to our portfolio company Animoca Brands on your stellar Q1 2024 performance with: - Bookings of US$90 million Q1 2024 (an increase of  72% compared to Q1 2023) - Operating expenses of $55 million Q1 2024 (decrease of 14% decrease compared to Q1 2023) The largest revenue contributor (72% of total bookings) was driven by Animoca's Digital Asset Advisory offering a full suite of services for digital asset projects to bring a token or NFT launch to market including tokenomics design, smart contract advisory, exchange listing support, launch strategy, decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) setup, node operations, and liquidity provisioning. Most discussions around Blockchain/Web3 are always focused on BTC/ETH #ETF, #DeFi, #L1/L2/L3 for quick returns, leading to an over-saturation of unused infrastructure and many dying projects. Not much attention is given to the relevance of #Web3 and the Creator Economy. (Some of this information you might already know) Web1 > Web2 > Web3 represents a new era as technology advances and new user behaviors are influenced by increasingly sophisticated tools. The creator economy is marked by progressive changes or states in each era: - Web1 (30+ years ago): Businesses (Centralized) Content = Where static content created by a small number of producers (e.g., big companies) was the initial opportunity for creators. - Web2 (started 20+ years ago): User-Generated Content (as Gen X and Y wanted to be heard) on centralized platforms revolutionized the business model and spurred the growth of the creator economy. - Web3 (believed to come): Commoditizing User-Generated Content on Decentralized platforms. Gen Z (asking "Why should my data/creation be sold and I get only a fraction?") is leading to the robust acceleration of the next creator economy and innovative business models. Core Technologies in the Next Wave of the Web3 <> Creator Economy:- 1. Social Media/Content/Streaming Platforms ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 2. Digital Marketing Tools ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) (maturing tech with killer use cases) 4. New Bubble Index Shows Low Risk of Downturn in the London Property Market – An Excellent Investment Opportunity Sometimes, it is positive news when a low ranking in a report is achieved. The findings of the new Global Real Estate Bubble Index, as always compiled by the Swiss banking giant UBS, are thus welcome for anyone active in the London residential property market. This index assesses the risk of property bubbles each autumn in the 25 most sought-after investment cities worldwide. The focus is on evaluating the risk of price corrections within the owner-occupied housing and apartment market. - This year, Miami leads the risk assessment for property bubbles with 1.79 points. Tokyo (1.67) and Zurich (1.51) follow in second and third place, respectively. Notably, Zurich had the highest bubble risk in the previous year. - Other cities currently facing elevated investment risks in residential real estate include Los Angeles (1.17 points), Toronto (1.03), Geneva (1.00), and Amsterdam (0.98). The UBS experts' assessment is somewhat more moderate for cities like Sydney and Boston (both at 0.78). - On a comparatively much lower index level, global cities such as Paris (0.35), New York (0.37), and London (0.41) are positioned. These three cities rank 19th to 21st, respectively. While this result may come as a surprise to some, it aligns with my experiences since launching P&P London in 2023. - UBS’s outlook for the future development of the housing market in the British capital is consistently positive. Following an all-time high in 2016, the London market has seen strong consolidation and now sits at approximately 25% below those peak prices. Further interest rate cuts from the Bank of England are anticipated by UBS, which will invigorate the demand for property purchases, especially as rental prices in London have already risen significantly. This indicator often reliably forecasts a marked rise in housing prices. - This is a highly favourable scenario for P&P London. Since our market entry last year, we have made significant investments in property, focusing on opportunities for architectural, structural, or conceptual repositioning. - Notably, the risk of property price bubbles in German cities has also decreased within the ranking. Frankfurt (currently 0.75, 11th place) and Munich (0.54, 17th place) have shown significant declines in risk values over the past two years. According to UBS, lower interest rates combined with a limited supply of housing will lead to a recovery in prices.
