Today is World Water Day 💦
Every year, we celebrate World Water Day to raise awareness of the importance of water. 2025 is the international year of glacier preservation which is also the theme of this year’s World Water Day. For the first time in history, mankind has pushed the global water cycle out of balance. Rainfall, the source of all freshwater, is becoming more erratic. Glaciers are melting faster than ever. As the planet gets hotter due to climate change, our frozen world is shrinking, making the water cycle more unpredictable and extreme. This affects all of us.
For The Kingdom of the Netherlands (KNL) water is, has always been, and will always remain a priority issue. Our Kingdom, with its low-lying river delta flowing into the North Sea and small islands in the Caribbean, was quite literally shaped by water. As former co-host of the UN Water Conference we are committed to put water at the heart of the global political agenda.
In Malaysia although there are no glaciers yet adverse effects of climate change impact our daily life. The issues of intense rainfall, floods, droughts and sea level rise are complex and require holistic approaches to overcome. As former co-host of the UN Water Conference we are committed to put water at the heart of the global agenda. We are now working together to share knowledge and solutions internationally.
In Malaysia we have been supporting the efforts of building climate resilient ecosystems that have long term benefits. Prioritizing conservation of the natural ecosystems mixed with green infrastructure and sustainable planning approaches.
Water is at the heart of achieving many of our collective climate and Sustainable Development Goals.
💦Let's take water action! 💦
