  • The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) recently held a town hall to discuss the Gig Workers Bill 2025, which aims to enhance protections for gig workers in Malaysia. YB Steven Sim emphasized the need for legal recognition, fair wages, structured dispute resolution, and improved access to PERKESO for social security. The bill seeks to address concerns raised by gig workers while ensuring a sustainable ecosystem for businesses and platforms. MICCI, represented by GENCO member Mr. Kelvin Kee, attended the session, which brought together key industry stakeholders, including employers, gig platforms, government agencies, and worker representatives. Discussions focused on defining gig workers under the law, ensuring income stability, establishing a structured dispute resolution process, and strengthening social protection measures. The bill aims to create a balanced regulatory framework that protects gig workers while allowing businesses to operate efficiently. Ensuring fair compensation and clear guidelines for dispute resolution is a priority, alongside mandating better access to social security benefits. Employers and platforms are expected to comply with these measures to support industry sustainability. With the bill expected to be tabled in Parliament soon, MICCI will continue engaging with stakeholders to ensure a fair and practical approach that safeguards worker rights while promoting business growth. Further developments will be monitored closely to ensure effective implementation and compliance with the proposed regulations.
