'What did you learn about UX and product design at NID that we can't learn from online courses and bootcamps?' Service design. That's the secret sauce. I studied a Master's in Information Design, and spent close to a year focusing on system and service design, introduced to us by Sridhar Dhulipala. It's been the foundation of everything I have designed since then - whether it's been something as common as the interface of a coffee vending machine, or as unique as a quantum key management system for military grade use - it's helped me map out all sorts of worlds, known and unknown. I have seen many try to explain service design, but the explanation that helped me most comes from the book 'Good Services' by Lou Downe: 'A service is something that helps someone do something'. The moment you realize just how powerful you are as a designer and how much you shape the subconscious of men, then you will take care to wield that power responsibly. A while ago, I wrote about how a single design decision, made by a designer (Aza Raskin) some 18 years ago, led to endless scrolling on social media -- what we now today call "doomscrolling". It’s the reason why you open TikTok or Instagram for a quick 5-minute break, only to end up scrolling for 5 hours. I strongly believe that designers have a duty to create with care and consideration for users’ well-being. Yes, we have a responsibility to the businesses we work with, but we also have a responsibility to the people who use our products. Design ethics should never be an afterthought. For ages, design (and designers) has been shaping the subconscious of people. It has shaped culture, behaviour, and even belief systems. This power is incredibly subtle—perhaps even dangerous—because it’s so often overlooked, blending quietly into the background. Ultimately, my goal with design is to leave the world better than I found it. It starts with understanding that, no matter how small or insignificant it seems, every design decision has the potential to create a ripple effect.

At the end of your UI/UX is for that product to sell. Create designs that convert, engage and reinforce business goals and objectives. This I believe shifts you from a basic designer to a decision maker. #buildingforthenextbillions

I've been having a great time designing and creating animated, interactive websites over the past few months. As a designer, it’s incredible to see how powerful no-code tools have become. Before using Framer, I would spend a lot of time learning animation frameworks, using Lottie files, videos, GIFs, you name it. Now, I can create interactions like the one in this video in just a few hours, allowing me to focus on the interactions themselves rather than the tools or frameworks. I still believe we need experts working on the right projects; a designer with a no-code tool won’t necessarily build the next app that changes the world (though, who knows—maybe!). But for quick, informative websites whose purpose is to be visually appealing and for me to have fun, no-code tools are amazing.

How I went from being a Product Designer to a Product Manager🚀 This transition was not quite easy for me because UI/UX design appeals to my creative side and till now it helps my design thinking while Product Management appeals to me because of my love for strategy building, user research, analytics and creating solutions that addresses users painpoints. I have overtime received messages from a few people asking how I transitioned and if I still juggle both. Here is the advice I gave to a graphic designer who wants to start as a junior UX designer. The context: ☣️ The boss is advising against learning saying "you will get less salary as a junior UX designer, better to keep doing what you do" The boss, just because he/she don't want to go through the simple hassle of hiring someone else, advised against it. 🚫 Not cool man. 👉🏻 Here is the advice I gave: ---------- 1. You don't need your boss's permission/approval to grow. If you are doing a full time job and the current Job is paying your bills, • It can be really difficult to make time, learn and do something more. • Remember, difficult, not impossible. • I had no laptop, no money or any tech experience when I learned. I learned from my cousin's (Haroon) personal laptop, and created posters on adobe XD for INR 300 (USD 3.5) to help myself to learn. • I am not saying you should burden yourself, but just saying you can pull it off. 2. Stick to the basics, you don't have to be the best UX designer when you start. Nobody ever was. • The best skill as a junior UX designer is the skill to learn. 3. You have a job to your advantage, use it. make time & complete the portfolio. • Use Framer templates, its free and world class design https://lnkd.in/dZhYeu8A • Or use Designfolio https://lnkd.in/dsqqRhTH • These are free and easy to use, just change content and at best, colors. • Make a custom portfolio later. You will know when you need one. Trust me. 4. Basics is everything. Learn the basics. Dear MSTeams.link, Please help us with a WATCH on Teams. Here is a situation that I usually get stuck in. This is a situation in between a scheduled meeting and an adhoc call. ' I have dropped a note that I need a connect.... I go check the status.... on a call... I check the calendar..... entire day is blocked..... I go check status.... still red..... I start doing my other work.... I check again.... still red.... I do other work.......still red.....' There should be something that can watch the person and tell us as soon as they are off the previous call, so we can get hold of them.
