January 05, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph was announced Friday as the winner of the 2017 Bobby Bowden Award, presented annually in conjunction with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to the Division I football player who "epitomizes a student-athlete as he represents God, his family, his institution and his community."
Other criteria include that the honoree conducts himself as an exemplary model in the classroom, on the field, on the campus and in the community.
Rudolph will be honored Sunday in Atlanta at the Bobby Bowden Award presentation. The FCA also recognizes runners-up Micah Kisner of Virginia, Dorian O'Daniel of Clemson and Harrison Phillips of Stanford.
Oklahoma State's most active player in community service activities over the course of his career, Rudolph has been a regular participant in OSU's Coaches vs. Cancer program and makes frequent appearances at local elementary schools and churches. His volunteer work with numerous community organizations has also included service with Read Across America, the YMCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Tim Tebow's Night To Shine Prom, Future Farmers of America, Grace Living Center (Nursing Home), Stillwater Medical Center, Nike N7, University Heights Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, the Manning Passing Academy and more.
On the field, Rudolph finished the season as the leading passer in FBS, both in terms of passing yards (4,904) and passing yards per game (377.2), and he also led all Power Five players in points responsible for per game (21.7).
Rudolph has received numerous other accolades this season, including the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award for accomplishments on the field, character, citizenship, scholastic achievement and leadership qualities, as well as All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association and the Associated Press. He is also one of three national finalists for the Jason Witten Man of the Year Award, which recognizes exemplary leadership both on and off the field. Other honors include being named a finalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and a finalist for the Manning Award, plus recognition from the Maxwell Award, the Wuerffel Trophy and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, among others.
Rudolph is the second Cowboy to win the Bobby Bowden award, as tight end Billy Bajema took home the honor in 2004.
