Tungkol sa amin

Enabling change and uplifting communities—this is our driving force in Manila Water Foundation. Clean water and sanitation, as recognized by the United Nations, are vital to the fulfillment of all human rights. The lack of these basic needs are two of the five indicators of extreme poverty. Despite being essential for a dignified living, these remain as privileges instead of rights to billions of people around the globe. For this reason, Manila Water Foundation (MWF) was established in 2005 by the Manila Water Company, to be its social development arm to serve waterless and toilet-less communities in the Philippines and other neighboring countries. Today, we are a non-stock, non-profit organization accredited by the Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC) and recognized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). Leveraging on the Enterprise’s business expertise in water and sanitation, we at MWF reach out beyond the business’ concession area (Metro Manila East Zone) to serve the entire archipelago. To make a meaningful impact, we focus on an Integrated WASH Program—a holistic intervention of water access, sanitation and hygiene education (WASH) services, intended to improve the lives of marginalized communities. We use a people-centered approach that empowers community leaders to own the transformation within their areas. Our over-all vision to bring WASH to all those who need it is anchored to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We at MWF support SDG 1- No poverty; SDG 3- Good health and well-being; SDG 6- Clean water and sanitation; SDG 14- Life below water; and SDG 17- Partnership for the Goals.

  • Integrated WASH | Manila Water Foundation, together with its partners: the MWSS, and PENRO Bulacan, handed over family toilets in Sitio Sapang Munti of Brgy. San Mateo in Norzagaray, Bulacan. This sanitation project is also supported by a US-based active wear company, Janji. The Sitio Sapang Munti community is within the Ipo Watershed, a critical water source for millions in Metro Manila. After months of construction, 11 out of 30 sanitation facilities were handed over to identified household partners who formerly did not have a safe family toilet. In the spirit of bayanihan, construction of the components of the family toilet such as the bamboo doors and the excavation of the septic tanks were led by community members. The partner families expressed gratitude to Manila Water Foundation during the handover ceremony, recalling the struggles they endured when they did not have their own toilet facilities. A positive difference for the community is to see the end to the incidence of open defecation. The family toilets provides safety and protects the dignity of girls and young children, and an overall win for the environment. Marilou, a mother in the community, said: “Ako po nagpapasalamat talaga sa Manila Water Foundation kasi naabot kami ng tulong mula sa kanila. Salamat po ng marami kasi nagkaroon kami ng kaalaman sa paglilinis ng kapaligiran ngayon po na nagkaroon na po kami ng napakagandang CR.” The family representatives received Ascorbic Acid Poten-Cee from Pascual Laboratories and home care products from P&G. Through the Integrated WASH program, Manila Water Foundation remains committed to care for the community stewards of the Ipo Watershed. #WASHforAllCommunities

  • ENVI | La Mesa Ecopark hosted a Feast from the Forest by MAD Travel last 3 August. The event started with a session on the importance of working with communities in reforestation and in developing livelihoods from non-timber forest products.
