Gradual Energy Transformation in Poland Poland's state development fund, PFR SA, is stepping up as an anchor investor in green bond sales to drive demand and support the country's transition away from its coal-heavy energy production. PFR aims to allocate the majority of its annual investments—up to 3 billion zloty ($731 million)—to energy projects, including offshore wind farms, power storage systems, and gas-fired plants, according to Deputy CEO Mikolaj Raczynski. I see this as both a significant challenge and opportunity—this transformation is a positive step for a country where almost two-thirds of its domestic energy production came from coal in 2023. Gas continues to play a vital role in Poland’s energy mix during this transition. Despite the global emphasis on renewable energy, Poland’s reliance on gas remains crucial, especially as Europe faces increasing energy demands and challenges related to the reduction of Russian gas supplies. Bloomberg reported that Poland has also declared its readiness to increase energy exports to Ukraine, replacing Slovakia, should it cut off power, as threatened by Slovakia’s Prime Minister at the end of the year. 🇵🇱Poland is at the stage of consulting the National Energy and Climate Plan (KPEiK), which Poland was obliged to submit to the European Commission by June 30, 2024. Updating the KPEiK is a key element of managing the energy transition in Poland.   🔔Therefore, 25 organizations appealed to the Ministry of Climate and Environment (Ministerstwo Klimatu i Środowiska) , which is responsible for the appearance of a strategic document such as the KPEiK, for the government to clearly adopt the active transformation scenario as the basis for conducting the national climate and energy policy.   In addition, organizations also demand: 🔹Setting clear goals and an action agenda for entities involved in the energy transformation. 🔹Continue public consultations by initiating multi-level dialogue and broad sector discussions to monitor progress on the commitments made.   The signatories declare their readiness to cooperate with the government in developing and implementing a comprehensive and socially acceptable energy and climate policy for Poland for the coming decades.   Full text of the appeal at the link: https://lnkd.in/d2E4nSYc

Will Polish offshore wind projects be seeking PPAs after the announcement of a low auction strike price? ♻🔝 ______________   Last week, Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment published a draft regulation on the maximum price for electricity generated by offshore wind farms. The maximum price for the Polish offshore auction scheme in 2025 was proposed at the level of 471,83 PLN/MWh (circa 108 EUR/MWh). The support will be granted for 25 years and will be indexed. It remains unclear whether the generator will remain exposed to the profile risk due to the auction scheme structure, however, the expected auction design leaves this substantial risk with the generator. Currently, offshore capture rates in Poland are forecasted at 97% for next year, however, with the increased offshore penetration, the capture rate is likely to drop and consequently represents a substantial risk for any investor.    As Our New Energy, we believe these prices are on the low side of what offshore wind projects in Poland need and expect developers to seek alternative revenue routes, such as PPAs. PPAs for offshore wind projects have been steadily growing, particularly in Germany and the UK. However, as ONE, we are also involved in Danish and Dutch offshore wind projects currently seeking PPA opportunities.  Despite some challenges, such as longer tenor requirements, far COD and high-volume requirements, offshore wind PPAs can be another innovative product within the Polish PPA market that could fit well within the industry. We see onshore wind PPA prices around 100 EUR/MWh, and with offshore wind capture rates exceeding those of onshore (currently 89%), it is possible that the offshore PPA will appear more attractive and can satisfy some of the demand. As ONE, we currently experience a sellers’ market for wind in Poland, and we remain very bullish on the outlook for offshore wind PPAs across Europe.  #OurNewEnergy #Poland #OffshoreWind #PPA #WindEnergy #Sustainability

🌱 Bioenergy Sector in Poland: Potential for a Sustainable Future One of Poland's most important recent tasks is to adapt to the demands of EU climate policy and to guarantee energy security. Meanwhile, the conventional technologies in Poland are still responsible for almost ¾ of electricity generation, and the share of zero-emission technologies (renewables and nuclear) is the lowest in the Community.  🌍 Renewable energy sources therefore have a great potential for development. It is currently estimated that around 50% of Poland's electricity needs could be met by renewable energy sources by 2030, compared with 20.6% in 2022. 🌿 Biomass and biogas represent 20% of electricity generated from renewable sources. The Polish biomethane industry estimates the potential for sustainable biomethane in Poland at 3.3 bcm by 2030. Given this potential, Poland could be one of the top 5 biomethane markets in the EU27. 🔍 The Francusko-Polska Izba Gospodarcza (CCIFP) is hosting a Business expedition next week for companies from France to present development opportunities in this area in Poland.
