Being habitually late to business, he is afraid to look for a raise, rather is he fearful about holding his job. The arrival of the good looking servant girl to collect her wages creates the impression in the boss' mind that she is Charley's wife. He invites himself to dinner. Thus Charley is compelled to get the maid to pretend to be his wife and get the dinner.
