What if we could build a community-sourced tree of how all martial arts are connected, by identifying the teacher/student relations of martial artists? And, just like in genealogy, what if we could add traceability to the sources used so that information can be checked and compared by the community?

This was the starting point of this project, which is split into two main parts:

- Database: the "backend", the database are YAML entries for individuals (with a schema associated for validation) that use the built-in GitHub versioning and approval mechanisms to add traceability: once an entry has been created or updated, the site is updated through CI/CD.
- Web site: using Cytoscape.js, Timeline.js, and other libraries, it allows for a rich interactive exploration of the database, with many different layouts, ability to search and trace connections, view the supporting information for each shown relation, and more. Exibir menos

An event to show the potential and synergies of high-energy physics and astroparticle physics with the highly demanded field of Data Science in modern society, and create links with the industry. I presented an industry PoV on IBM's work in Data Science and AI and how IBM Research has been very connected with major advances in science, including Physics.

Organised by the NFIST (Núcleo de Física do Instituto Superior Técnico is a non-profit juvenile society, that envolves students, teachers and researchers of the Physics Department of IST) I participated in the event in multiple ways: participation in a "speed dating" session to talk with graduate students about working in the industry and also as a keynote speaker in a session about Data Science, AI and the work IBM has done in related fields.

This seminar was integrated in the Postgraduate Programme in Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence; I was part of the panel and talked about IBM's perspective on Cognitive Analytics, Data Science and AI (presentation: https://fsmunoz.github.io/nova-ims-cognitve-2017/IBM-NOVA-IMS-Cognitive-2017.html)

As part of the Research Day conference at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon I presented on Watson for Healthcare and Life Sciences to an audience of medical students, researchers and MDs.

For the 9th WBME I presented on Watson for Healthcare and prepared and instructed a hands-on workshop on how to develop a cognitive application using Watson Visual Recognition, Data Science Experience (with Jupyter notebooks and Spark R).
