CSI automates the storage creation process, eliminating the need for manual intervention. It consists of three different classes: block volumes, file volumes, and storage policies. Block volumes are accessible by only one container, while file volumes are commonly mapped in the storage class. Storage policies are used to define data storage and resiliency specifications. CSI allows mapping these classes together, enabling you to call a PBM policy from within the YAML configuration during container creation. Comparing #Crossplane, #AzureServiceOperator (ASO), & #AWSControllersforKubernetes (ACK) reveals different cloud management scopes via Kubernetes. Crossplane is multi-cloud, managing infrastructure & apps across providers. ASO, by Microsoft, simplifies Azure resource management. ACK, from AWS EKS, offers a Kubernetes interface for AWS services. Azure Service Operator (ASO) is officially maintained by Microsoft and focuses on managing Azure resources through Kubernetes. It is designed for simplicity and does not offer the higher-level abstractions that Crossplane does. ASO is specific to Azure and is not intended to be multi-cloud. Same for ACK is maintained by AWS EKS team and specific to AWS. Crossplane covers more services for Cloud including gcp and 3rd parties such as github, terraform etc. Integrating Crossplane with Argo CD, Argo Workflows, Argo Events, and Argo Rollouts can create a powerful, cloud-native environment that leverages the strengths of each tool: Argo CD is used for GitOps, automatically syncing your desired application state defined in Git with your Kubernetes cluster. When used with Crossplane, you can manage not only applications but also the infrastructure they run on, all within the same workflow. Argo Workflows is an open-source container-native workflow engine for orchestrating parallel jobs on Kubernetes. Crossplane can be used within these workflows to provision and manage the necessary cloud resources. Argo Events is an event-driven framework for Kubernetes. It can trigger workflows or updates in Argo CD based on events, which could include changes in the infrastructure managed by Crossplane. Argo Rollouts provides advanced deployment capabilities such as canary and blue-green deployment strategies for Kubernetes. Crossplane’s infrastructure management can be integrated into these rollouts to ensure that the underlying resources are available and configured correctly for new versions of applications. For setting up Crossplane with Argo CD, use Argo CD version 2.4.8 or later. You’ll need to configure Argo CD to use annotation-based resource tracking to work properly with Crossplane. Additionally, you may need to set up custom health checks for Crossplane resources within Argo CD. These integrations allow you to manage the full lifecycle of both applications and the infrastructure in a declarative way, using Git as a single source of truth. This approach can greatly simplify the complexity of managing multi-cloud environments and provide a clear overview of the entire application stack.

In the world of Kubernetes, Node Affinity ensures your pods only run on designated nodes. Imagine a pod requiring a special GPU labeled node for processing power. Carpenter, an infrastructure management tool for AWS EKS, helps with this by automatically scaling your cluster based on these needs. This video showcases how to leverage Node Affinity with Carpenter on AWS EKS. It guides you through: 1. Setting up an EKS cluster and configuring Carpenter 2. Creating a deployment with a node affinity rule (e.g., requiring a node labeled eks:immersion-team=my-team) 3. Carpenter automatically provisioning a new node with the required label 4. Modifying the deployment to demand a different instance type. Carpenter responds by deleting the old node and creating a new one meeting the new specifications By the end, your pods are up and running on the newly created node. fluent-bit with loki and grafana is a better option than prom-tail with loki and grafana, when it comes to the question of a logging architecture for windows containers in Kubernetes. Fluent-Bit has very good documentation and cross platform support and is far easier to configure. promtail's documentation for windows containers is almost non existent barring a few superficial ones. so if you are using windows containers, absolutely use fluent-bit with loki for windows nodes. You can use Both promtail for linux and fluent-bit for windows also if you want.
