Will Trump’s “America First” Policy Accelerate the Rewriting of Strategic Alliances, Partnerships, and Actions? Consider Jim Rowans announcement of Volvo Cars divestment in Lynk & Co. While this may not be directly driven by recent US policies—I'm not certain—it certainly reflects broader industry trends in pursuing growth opportunities and strategic partnerships in key markets. With a resurgence of “America First” policies, we may see more companies reassessing their global strategies, potentially shifting focus toward markets like China. Yet, it’s important to recognize that such strategic decisions are complex and shaped by numerous factors beyond US policy alone. Companies will continue making choices based on long-term growth prospects, technological needs, and market opportunities, regardless of short-term political changes in any single country. Currently, the US auto market lags behind Europe and especially China in electric and digital automotive advancements, with one notable exception: Tesla. I believe, as many Swedes do, that rising barriers, walls even, imposing tariffs, and excluding others is the beginning of the end. The coming months may bring more profound consequences and shake-ups than the president-elect—and their voters—may have anticipated. Any thoughts?

Developing a new technology from scratch is always exciting. Nowdays the AI is one of the technology, that can change the game in several ways. We believe that in production quality checking, an AI solution can be a huge step up compared to the previous methods. It has so much extra tolerance about product placement and the environmental conditions, without losing any accuracy, or even being more precise, that for visual inspection, no complex EOL machines needed anymore, just AI cameras and some kind of product placement solution, and thats all. Thats why we started to develop our own AI-solution about a year ago. Our goal was not only developing a "simple" AI camera, but a cooperative AI-Mesh system, where the cameras are connected together as a whole organic system, new cameras can be added without any extra programming or restrictions, so that the finished device can inspect a product from every needed viewing angles at once, and gives an OK/NOK result in less time than needed for placing the product in. In the video, its our "sandbox prototype" device, where we develop and test our new solutions. And we still have endless list of ideas... Also worth to mention that there is no need for Kanban card or any barcode identifying with this device, instead at first step the AI identifies the product itself, and loads the corresponding feature definitions from the server, and then checks the existence of the required features. In the factory area, we are already using this device/technology on the Audi eQ5 interior part production line for EOL quality checking, with convincing results, and we are just finishing the next one for our Audi Q3 line. From the side of cost, our EOL device with 7 AI cameras for the eQ5 cost less (the whole finished device alltogether) than for example only 1pcs AI camera from Keyence alone, which is a good product as well. And we are just at the beginning of the story...

Are automatic emergency systems a life-saver or a strain on public resources? This week, Lukas Deininger from SVT reported on the usage of automatic emergency call systems. Since 2018, these systems have been mandatory in new vehicles across the EU. Similar technologies were later introduced to mobile phones and wearables. However, debates arise about whether they effectively utilize public resources. I witnessed such a system in action once. On a late winter evening on a slippery road, I arrived at the scene of a car crash. A vehicle had hit a rock wall along the road. It looked like just minutes after the incident occurred, but emergency vehicles were already arriving. I was surprised and thought about how reassuring it is to receive such swift assistance on the road. When every second counts, it can certainly save lives. I find it challenging to evaluate this from the perspective of wearable devices. Perhaps Christian K. can offer some Medtech insights. In the automotive world, this technology definitely saves lives, but I acknowledge it can lead to unnecessary use of resources.
