First successful demonstration of FLASH capabilities at the Goh Cheng Liang Proton Therapy Centre, National Cancer Centre Singapore on 5 March 2025, using the Hitachi Probeat Proton Therapy System. At dose rates of greater than 700 Gy/sec generated in the fixed beam room, the video captures the Cherenkov phenomenon, a blue glow when a charged particle passes through a medium at a speed greater than the phase velocity. Kudos to the NCCS team led by Prof Sung Yong Park and Hitachi, for this achievement. #NCCS #GCLPTC

Today, NCCS hosted the 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺, bringing together clinicians, researchers, medical social workers, allied health professionals and TCM practitioners to hear from experts on the latest in integrative oncology. Integrative care is a holistic, patient-centred, and evidence-based approach that complements medical care through mind-body practices, natural products, and lifestyle modifications such as TCM, supplements, aromatherapy, and art and music therapy.   A key highlight was a plenary lecture by pioneer integrative medicine specialist, Dr Gary Deng, Medical Director of the Bendheim Medical Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, on the future of integrative medicine. NCCS also led a roundtable discussion with representatives from Singapore General Hospital, National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, UC Irvine, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on advancing integrative care in specialist cancer centres in Singapore.   #IntegrativeOncology #HolisticCancerCare #PatientCentredCare

National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) is redefining #cancer care for elderly patients through its #Geriatric #Oncology (GO) programme, ensuring treatment is based on fitness, not just age. Led by Prof Ravindran Kanesvaran, the GO team conducts comprehensive geriatric assessments to personalise treatment, improve quality of life, and prevent unnecessary hospitalisations. A recent study found that patients who underwent these assessments experienced better outcomes, fewer admissions, and optimised medication dosages.
