We are pleased to announce the official launch of UOB's 11th Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Advisory Centre in Seoul. This new FDI centre aims to support the growing number of Korean companies seeking to expand into ASEAN. FDI flows from Korea into Southeast Asia has more than doubled from US$5 billion in 2017 to US$10.9 billion in 2023. As companies seek to diversify their operations and tap on the region’s growing consumer population, they are seeking out trusted partners to guide them through the complexities of cross-border expansion. With one of the widest footprints among banks in Southeast Asia and a deep understanding of local markets, we are able to provide seamless connectivity for Korean companies looking to establish and expand their operations in this region. In the spirit of the upcoming Hari Raya Puasa, we hosted over 30 beneficiaries from Gracehaven Children’s Home on a cultural tour around Kampung Glam, giving everyone the opportunity to appreciate our rich heritage. The tour started off with an insightful talk by Mr Nadzir, docent coordinator, on the history behind Sultan Mosque and The Five Pillars of Islam. Next, we had a guided tour around Kampung Glam, where we learned interesting facts about the iconic architecture and this vibrant district. Did you know that the golden domes at Sultan Mosque are decorated with black soy sauce bottles, donated by residents when it was first built in 1824? Or that Haji Lane got its name from the Arabic word Haji, which refers to Muslims who have completed the pilgrimage to Mecca? The lane was historically home to many Muslim pilgrims, who would stay in the area before or after their journey to Mecca. Our #UOBHeartbeat volunteers also guided beneficiaries on a sponsored shopping trip where they bought food or gift items. In our ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, we launched our festive packets recycling initiative in 2020 to encourage customers to recycle used festive packets instead of discarding them. Recycling boxes have been placed at selected UOB branches islandwide for customers to conveniently drop their used festive packets. To expand this effort and develop sustainable habits among students, we collaborated with the School Recycling League 2025 to launch a new pilot. Our festive packets recycling boxes are now placed at 30 schools, and will run till July. Tracy Ong, Senior Principal of Little Footprints Preschool @ ITEWEST, adds “This festive packet recycling initiative has been very well-received, encouraging conversations at home. It becomes a conversation starter at home between parents and children, starting with the children who’d drive parents to get actively involved in the sustainable efforts that are done in the school.
