In our ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, we launched our festive packets recycling initiative in 2020 to encourage customers to recycle used festive packets instead of discarding them. Recycling boxes have been placed at selected UOB branches islandwide for customers to conveniently drop their used festive packets. To expand this effort and develop sustainable habits among students, we collaborated with the School Recycling League 2025 to launch a new pilot. Our festive packets recycling boxes are now placed at 30 schools, and will run till July. Tracy Ong, Senior Principal of Little Footprints Preschool @ ITEWEST, adds “This festive packet recycling initiative has been very well-received, encouraging conversations at home. It becomes a conversation starter at home between parents and children, starting with the children who’d drive parents to get actively involved in the sustainable efforts that are done in the school. UOB turns 90 in 2025. Since our founding, we have grown together with our Communities, Colleagues and Customers across generations. With these deep relationships, many stories have unfolded. In 2024, we successfully prevented over $6 million in scam-related losses by intervening in 230 cases across our 47 branches, the majority of which involved elderly individuals. We partnered with Singapore Police Force on its inaugural scam prevention event two years ago. Following that, we have organised more than 20 workshops for various groups, including students, business professionals, and seniors. After each session, our UOB employee volunteers will take time to address attendees’ questions. Seniors frequently enquire about how to safely use banking apps, and the process to activate the “Money Lock” feature, which restricts outgoing digital transactions to safeguard funds.
