SINGAPORE: Four ride-hailing operators in Singapore will be raising their platform fees by up to S$0.50 (US$0.37) from Jan 1, 2025, in a move they partly attribute to costs arising from the upcoming Platform Workers Act. Grab, the leading ride-hailing platform in Singapore, will increase its fees from S$0.70 to S$0.90 for commuters, it said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 24). * As long as Singapore's COE remains highly priced, commuters that cannot afford cars, will go Ride-hailing. While Singaporeans keen to own their cars, can use this additional income to finance them. Most importantly, giving options for workers to go flexibility, and away from Artificial Intelligence Disruption, into the Career of Last Resort.

Singapore is investing $60 million in its National Robotics Programme (NRP) to boost robotics development in manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare. Funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and hosted by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, the NRP aims to capitalize on the growing global robotics market. The investment supports the RoboCluster initiative, focusing initially on cleaning building exteriors. The program aims to foster collaboration between the NRP and industries, with plans to expand into healthcare and logistics. The initiative aims to translate research into practical applications, addressing concerns over manpower shortages and mundane tasks in sectors like facilities management. With over $450 million already invested by the NRF, recent projects include rodent-scanning robots and drones for cleaning large structures like Gardens by the Bay's Supertrees. So if you are around in Singapore at the end of the month come along to the IEEE Conference on AI. I'll be publishing my first paper in quite a while, this one on the application of #GenAI to consumer networking and specifically the creation of #IPv6 ILAs as a way to provision flat networks against which devices and services are authenticated, removing the need for 'pyramid' based networks and continual reauthentication and reducing multidomain security problems. The paper is titled "Using Generative AI to drive Person Centric Networking". The theory behind the paper is that you can now use GenAI to dynamically create the device and service to network configuration in a way that makes it accessible to consumers, meaning that the networking provisioning challenge moves up a layer of abstraction and simplifies the challenge for end-users. Rather than authenticating Netflix on every device, you authenticate Netflix to your network and then provision devices, sometimes temporarily, to that network. Only with GenAI can we simplify this challenge from the deeply technical to the human available. Hat-tip to Dave Duggal who gave me the initial idea and to my kids for elegantly demonstrating the business challenge. Digital twins replicate the physical attributes and behaviour of devices which are useful for analysing and testing, however, they don’t give manufacturers the complete picture of potential faults and inefficiencies. Countries like China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore are leveraging connectivity twins to enhance industrial operations, smart city projects, and telecommunications networks. "In countries with strong industrial bases and digital transformation initiatives, leading companies are actively incorporating connectivity twins into their operations to gain a competitive edge, optimise processes, and improve overall efficiency," concludes Quan. I was delighted to hear Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's emphasis on the simplification of doing business in Singapore during the recent National Day Rally. As a robotics startup, we have faced many challenges in bringing our innovative solutions to the market, especially in terms of regulatory compliance and approval. One of the areas that we are most looking forward is the possibility of multiple agencies working together to simplify the application procedures for robots to travel on public roads for delivery, cleaning and patrolling. This would open up a huge opportunity for many local robotics companies to deploy their robots in various sectors and scenarios, such as e-commerce, hospitality, security and more. We believe that these robots can provide a safe, efficient and convenient service to the public, while reducing the reliance on human labor and resources. Another area that we are looking forward to is the integration of robots with lifts, which many Asian countries have already implemented. This would enable mobile robots to access different floors of buildings and deliver goods or perform tasks without human intervention. This would also enhance the user experience and satisfaction, as well as the productivity and profitability of our clients. We are grateful to the Prime Minister and the government for their vision and support for the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Singapore. We hope that the simplification of doing business in Singapore will become a reality soon, and that we can contribute to the nation's growth and development with our robotics solutions.
