Omdia's Cloud & Data Center team provides a monthly snapshot of this market's key developments. In May, they concluded that "The Data Center Market is Red Hot in 2024".  This was echoed during the many conversations at ATxSG 2024 in Singapore last week. AI positively impacts data center market performance. Server revenue growth is off the chart in 2024, at 59% (up from $122.5B in 2023). Cooling revenue is on track to grow 24-26% in 2024, surpassing $9.5B (up from $7.7B in 2023). However, we must add a cautionary note. Power availability concerns, the lack of physical infrastructure readiness, and GPU supply constraints might prevent even ambitious tech companies from deploying hundreds of thousands of GPUs by the end of 2024. I’m delighted to share the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region is now open, representing our first AWS Region in Malaysia, our 3rd in ASEAN, and our 34th AWS Region globally. This investment will contribute an estimated $12.1B to Malaysia’s GDP, and represents a $6.2B investment from AWS in the country through 2038. With this new region, customers and partners across ASEAN can now choose where they can store their data with the same robust security standards, high availability, and fault-tolerant design as our other AWS Regions around the globe. AWS Training & Certification teams have already trained more than 100,000 people in cloud skills since 2017 in Malaysia alone, contributing to upskilling our customer, partner, and developer communities in the latest AI and generative AI advancements—and we are not done yet. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit Malaysia in my current role at AWS, including my most recent visit in June 2023, when I connected with the local AWS Malaysia team, met with customers, and presented at the inaugural Energy Asia Week (the largest energy conference in the Asia Pacific Region). The excitement on the ground was palpable, and I was inspired by the ongoing innovation customers, such as PETRONAS, are driving with AWS Cloud technology. A well-defined roadmap outlining the path to cloud adoption, along with specific milestones and timelines, is essential for unlocking the full potential of the cloud and ensuring the success of your digital transformation journey.

Oracle has announced a plan to train up to 10,000 students and professionals in artificial intelligence over the next three years in Singapore. Among the initiatives is the offer of 300 internships and apprenticeships to polytechnic students, who will have an opportunity for employment within Oracle or its partners post-training. From my perspective, this initiative will be beneficial for both Singapore and Oracle. Launching education initiatives can have several strategic advantages, both internally for operations and externally for market and community impact. Let's delve deeper into why I believe this. 1) These initiatives can serve as a direct pipeline for recruiting top talent. Participants who have completed Oracle's training programs are more likely to be considered for recruitment, already knowing the company's culture and processes. 2) They will improve their CSR profile by contributing to education, enhancing public perception, and increasing brand loyalty among consumers. 3) They are also expanding their user base by educating potential users on their technologies. For example, Oracle training individuals on its specific platforms or tools increases the likelihood that these tools will be adopted. 4) Education initiatives can strengthen the ecosystems around their products or services by increasing the number of people who can use or support their technology. 5) Companies that are actively involved in education may have a greater voice in policy discussions related to technology and education. This could potentially influence regulations that affect their business. 6) In industries with stringent regulation, investing in societal goods like education can generate goodwill with regulatory bodies. In conclusion, Oracle's educational initiatives in Singapore represent a forward-thinking strategy that supports its business goals while contributing positively to the broader tech landscape. As Oracle continues to expand its influence in cloud computing and AI, its commitment to education and community engagement will likely serve as a cornerstone of its ongoing success and influence in the tech industry.
