Ohh The sweet Irony 😆😆😆😆 A group appears to have leaked access to Sora, OpenAI’s video generator, in protest of what they’re calling duplicity and “art washing” on OpenAI’s part. On Tuesday, the group published a project on the AI dev platform Hugging Face seemingly connected to OpenAI’s Sora API, which isn’t yet publicly available. I have spent half of my life thinking about governance, political and economic systems, and sociology. I've often played mental chess in my head dissecting the pro's and con's of various types of governance - comparing the political theory on paper to different sorts of execution in practice, and looking at how these systems support the masses as well as the individuals. It's 2024 and we haven't figured out voting, asset management, education, finance, healthcare, global diplomacy, or even freedom of information. We've been perverted by generations of oligarchal tyrants and totalitarianistic monopolies - while being led to think that our only options are Communism, Socialism, Democracy or Fascism. I took the time, after many years of picking apart political systems, to build an outline of how we could have a system that has all the benefits of communism (yes, there are benefits - on paper), with the complete freedom of anarchy.. all of the benefits of capitalism, with the protections against oligarchies and extreme socialist republics. While it looks good on paper, it would take a complete mind-shift of the masses in order to incorporate something like this, and would first take us being honest with ourselves, and being willing to admit that we fucked up. An addict cannot recover unless he first admits that he has a problem, and we have all become addicted to convenience, and short term dopamine hits.. and we are surely going to pay for it if we don't make some changes. Without any further delay, here is an outlined proposal of what a new type of governing system could look like for the people of the world: Libertocracy. The governments and corporations of the world today only have authority because we grant them that authority. You cannot build a house ontop of a broken foundation. One must be willing to build a new system to make the old one obsolete. 🎶 You know... there's a way to solve these huge music copyright issues that have been looming over Suno and Udio. 💡 Use the same model that Spotify is using to remunerate creators. 🎧 Every generative AI model is using training data from hundreds of thousands/millions of sound recordings, but no one knows who/what/when/where. 🤷‍♂️ Step 1: AI platforms can be integrated with blockchain-based smart contracts that automatically track and record the use of sound recordings in training data. Every time an AI model utilizes a sound recording, the smart contract mints an ERC-20 token based on minutes, number of iterations, or other metrics and assigns tokens to the associated rightsholders' wallets. 💻🎵 Step 2: Platforms can allocate a portion of their overall proceeds directly back to rightsholders as a percentage of revenue, exactly like streaming platforms do, based on holdings of that ERC-20 token. It's fungible, tradeable, sellable, mintable, and represents exactly the metric that the AI platforms or rightsholders want it to represent. 💰 This ensures not only direct compensation for usage but also continuous revenue sharing as the AI platform grows. 📈🪙 Step 3: Profit? 🎉 Of course, this assumes that platforms want their AI to be responsibly trained, but I'm not going to go down that rabbit hole. 🕳️🐇 #musicai #musictech #musiccopyright

This is why competition is a good thing - Meta has responded to Apple's entry into the VR/AR market by adopting an open operating system - so what does that mean? An open OS can be used on devices made by other manufacturers, and it can also run software and apps from other developers (like the Windows and Linux operating systems used on PCs, or Android used on mobile phones). A closed OS will generally only run on that company's hardware, and will only run apps developed for or approved by that company. (like... well... anything to do with Apple...) And there are pros and cons to both: With closed OS you control the market - from pricing to quality - enabling you to raise both (particularly when you can ensure that the hardware and the software maximise each others capabilities). You can also tie in your users to a "Closed Ecosystem", where all your products work beautifully with each other, but there is little to no compatibility with anyone else's products (we call this the "Comfortable Jail" - it's nice in there, but it's deliberately hard to leave). So, it may result in a smaller pie, but you own all of it. With an open OS, larger numbers of developers can be involved, increasing variety and, through greater competition, driving down prices, which ultimately makes for a bigger market. Microsoft Windows may only get a slice of the PC pie, but that pie is massive. Of course up until now Meta has run a VERY Apple-like closed operating system for its VR devices - so why the sudden shift towards open OS? Well, there's the benefits that Mark Zuckerberg puts forward in this video, but this is unlikely to be Meta's actual motivation. Having been in tech marketing for 25 years, here's my personal take on it: Ultimately Apple are time-served masters of the closed operating/eco-system, there's little sense in trying to compete with them on this. For Meta, proactively adopting the opposing stance can be both a better look, tapping into the more libertarian side of technology tribalism, whilst securing their slice of that much bigger pie. Technology history, from computers to phones, has taught us that there's room for both approaches in the market, but not for two giants competing for the same one. Whatever Meta's motivation however, there's no doubt that this move could be a very good thing for consumers, developers and the XR market as a whole. Big announcement: pleias releases a massive open corpus of 2 million Youtube videos in Creative Commons (CC-By) on Hugging Face. Youtube-Commons features 30 billion words of audio transcriptions in multiple languages, and soon other modalities. This release and intensive collaborative work that has preceded it seemed necessary to us for two reasons: 1) As The New York Times reported just last week, current LLMs have been trained on copyrighted YouTube videos. Open AI has notably used more than 1 million hours to train its models. It is urgent to show that these practices are not only unethical but also NOT necessary to train SOTA LLMs. 2) Open conversational data has always been scarce, prompting LLM projects to favor synthetic data. YouTube-Commons is also one of the largest available collection of transcribed oral text that facilitates the fine-tuning and alignment tasks for downstream use cases, notably in smaller European languages which are today almost not covered in the synthetic data sets. The collection is far from covering the total amount of available YouTube videos under a Creative Commons license. We will continue to expand it significantly. Other additional release will also focus on transcripts from other video sources not available on YouTube (especially from public service/university websites). The corpus was stored and processed with the generous support of Scaleway. It was built up with the support and concerted efforts of the state start-up LANGU:IA (start-up d’Etat), supported by the Ministère de la Culture and Direction interministérielle du numérique (DINUM), as part of the prefiguration of the service offering of the Alliance for Language technologies EDIC (Alliance for Language Technologies - ALT-EDIC). https://lnkd.in/ejmYaDkq

I have always been curious about gaming in browsers. This week I took a crack on it and found 3 websites that are actually good. Most importantly they are available on all browsers be it Google Chrome or otherwise. Slow Roads . IO - where you can free roam in EVs. Ztype- arcade way to increase your typing. Not sure about this implementation but this is the direction things are heading for sure. If its not the Humane Pin, it'll be Friend, if not Friend, something else. We will likely not stop anthropomorphizing tech until there is a huge paradigm shift. The question of trust and usefulness comes immediately to mind... but as these elements become smaller, open source and own-able, trust has a better possibility of being baked in.
