The Amazing Race is going Hollywood and for the first time ever, 13 teams will start the journey of a lifetime at Los Angeles’ very famous white-lettered sign.
Season 35 is set to premiere Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 9:30/8:30c with its first 90-minute entry of the season. (Every episode will, in fact, be super-sized.) The new cast (see photos below) includes a Deaf dad and his son (Rob and Corey), a pair of college besties (Malaina and Andrea), two young veterans (Liam and Yeremi) and more. The show’s new globetrotters will endure a 23,800-mile adventure around the world and visit a new country, Slovenia, known for its beautiful landscape and dramatic scenery. There, teams will fly in a gravity defying glider, 2,000 feet over Lake Bled, cross-country ski indoors and climb 1,110 steps to the top of Planica’s tallest ski jump.
Other locations for the season include Thailand, India, Germany, Sweden, Ireland and Washington state, and by the end of the trek, one team will be awarded the $1 million prize.
The racers are in for plenty of surprises this season when a former team serves as judges at the end of the first Roadblock which sees team members cross a perilous tightrope stretched in between two rooftops. The show is also returning to commercial traveling, and will once again have no non-elimination legs. Plus, the Express Pass is back (!) and a twist on the infamous U-Turn will shake things up and make this season of the Race more competitive than ever.

Why don’t they do 2 a season like Survivor? But I won’t be surprised if there filming right now for the spring season to have backup depending how long the strike last.
My guess is 1) ratings; 2)cost; 3)Logistics. But I’d love it to be on twice a year!
They are only now casting for Season 36, so probably not ready before next summer/fall. But it did have multiple seasons for a few years. And thankfully this season seems more like earlier seasons with better casting. I gave up on Survivor a few years ago after being a die hard fan from the beginning. The casting and new twists made it unwatchable for me. Though I loved the Australian version (when it was on Paramount).
And no as season 35 is already shot but will serve as season 36 and I can confirm this as they were approached by cbs about both survivor and the amazing race being 90 minutes so season 36 will serve as season 35 and 35 as 36 and normal 1 hour episodes that will air sometime in the future but they didn’t want to pad season 35 episodes so they have switched up the two seasons
They did double up pre pandemic
I am afraid 90 minute episodes are going to seem padded . I think we are going to spend a lot more time seeing teams struggle with challenges, getting lost, or sitting in traffic. When these episodes were filmed they were planned to be 60 minutes and I think it is going to show. The same will be true of Survivor.
Eh, the filming would be the same, they’re basically filmed the whole time. It’s just how much editing comes into play that will make the difference.
It’s a race. The show is based on speed and is edited that way. Extending each episode to 90 minutes, it is going to seem they are going slower. We have already seen this in previous 90 minute episodes which were not the show’s best. This is all speculation as the show has not airred. If you chose to believe more is better, great. I hope you are correct.
They used to do 2 a season, there was a point where it felt like it was 3 seasons within 18 months but they stopped a while back. It’s been on 20 years, I started watching while I was pregnant with my daughter. Ratings is my guess for the current one season per year.
It’s been so long since they did 2 a year I forgot.
I’m concerned about 90 minutes of this each week. The last few seasons have seemed tedious watching them, like a chore to get through. But as long as they eliminate or minimize social media freaks, I’m good.
Definitely rooting for the engaged guys and the friends from Washington.
Actually just read that this season is really 36 and 35 has already been filmed. 35 was ready to go for 60 minute episodes so instead of re-editing, they filmed 36 planning on 90 minute episodes. So the good news is – hopefully since the episode length was known, there’ll be less filler and that we’ll see a 1 hour edition in the spring or at least next summer
Yes that was from the show producer that ad soon as they were approached that they decided they would switch seasons and that 36 would be 35 and 35 36 so they didn’t have to go back and re-edit season 35
At least there will be another post-COVID season for next spring to start production at the end of the month, and filming is set for next month to be know as TAR 36 but will be the 37th season to be filmed.
“No non-elimination legs”, but how many two-part “KEEP RACING!” eps, I wonder?
.
Still, looking forward to this, and hoping the expanded episodes aren’t just an extra half hour of annoying teams being annoying.
I just hope the deaf contestant gets treated better than Matt on the current big brother season
Really? Do tell (about Matt on BB)! ***eating popcorn***
Is this the first time in a while we haven’t seen contestants from other reality shows or social media people? Thank goodness.
But ultimately the only thing I really want is the challenges to be better. In recent seasons most of the challenges are pretty lackluster, and not really that challenging.
Oh actually I do want one more thing, no horrible alliances that drag mediocre teams to the finals and that gang up on the actual good teams.
