Today marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers informed the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, of their freedom. This is a day recognised for its importance in African American culture and American history as a whole. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom, but there's still a lot of work to be done. Barriers to black wealth throughout US history have had long-lasting effects. Today, black families in the US have 9.2 x less wealth than white families!
